Vertical Exhaust on a 4520..??

Just curious to know if anyone has vertical exhaust on their 4x20 series tractors. Just got my 4520 delivered and I normally like the smell of diesel exhaust but after a couple of hours in the seat my eyes say they have had enough of the fumes. Wonder if vertical exhaust would solve the problem? If anyone has vert. exhaust did your tractor come that way or did you retro-fit it?

There are lots of threads about this here in the JD Forum, mostly with the 3x20 series but the theory still applies...search the term "vertical" for lots of reading.

read the thread about the 4320 "loud tractors' on the main page here now. I have the lower exhaust and found that for the most part this problem with smoke went away after break in. Mine is a cab tractor though, with an open station it may persist.

I have a 4720 with a vertical exhaust and it does help with getting the fumes up and over your head. The one thing you need to be careful with is when you trailer it, as I have seen leaves and bugs come out when you start it.

I feel the same way as you, I can't stand the fumes blowing up in my face and breathing them all day long. I put the vertical exhaust kit on my 3320 and it helps a lot to vent the fumes up and away from you. It doesn't completely fix it as I still get some residual fumes depending on the way the wind blows, but it's a whole lot better, it's definitely worth the purchase. My only change to it would be to make it slightly taller, I think if it had another foot in height it would completely eliminate the problem as right now the stack only comes up to being level with your head.

Here's my 3320, just imagine it slightly bigger for the look of a 4x20 series

I put a vertical stack on my 3320 and just like WH401 said, it helps but a foot higher
would probably be much better.

Do you have to cut a hole in the hood or the side panel?
Do you use the existing muffler?

Kubota 2350, In order to put the vertical exhaust on you need to cut a hole through the hood not the side panel.

I think that you just rotate the muffler so that it will line up with the hole.

Yes, you have to cut a hole in the hood, but it's marked on the inside of the hood on the 3x20 and 4x20 series tractors so it's very simple. Yes, you'll use the existing muffler, but the kit comes with a new exhaust elbow that fits on the end of the muffler. You'll remove the original down pipe that exits the exhaust out down by the left front tire, and then install this newer elbow in it's place. The elbow is also what the exhaust stack will be mounted on to. Here's some pictures for an example.
