AC is good when you have arc blow, or for Tig welding aluminum. Far as I know that's about it.
PM Mark in the Everlast section, ask him what kind of a deal he can make you. So far what I've seen of Mark, and Longevity they both step right up to the plate and make things right with the members here. I've had my PA-200 coming up on 3-years, not one problem.

Most welding trucks run DC only. AC is good if you're burning 3/16" or 1/4" rods and you're getting arc blow. You need to be over 200 amps to get any arc blow in the first place. AC is used for TIG welding aluminum but you also need a high frequency.

I may get me one of those inverter machines and keep the old lincoln around just incase if i ever need ac. Thanks for mentioning it. I didnt even know they existed before you suggeted it earlier. The price is much better than i expected. More $ left over for fish bait and bullets (if any were available)!

I am suprised you are having problems with the lincoln ac/dc tombstone. I bought mine new about 30 years ago and it has burnt many a rod and built many a project. I seldom use the ac side of it unless its thick metal and I need the amps. It is possible that the selector switch is bad and I think i would have it checked out first before buyin a new stick machine of any brandname. Might save you some fishing money and turn your junk machine back to the welding rig it used to be.

Ive had mine 20 yrs or so. The reason i hate it so is the amp selector switch will pop out of place at the absolute worst times when im in the biggest rush to get a machine repaired and back on the payroll. When this happens the welder has to be completely disassembled to get to the switch. It is the very last piece to come out of the box. Then it takes 2 seconds to pop it back into place then another hour of putting it back together. That alone over the years has cost me enough downtime to buy several new expensive welders. It did it again just the other day when i needed to weld a trailer ramp to move a dozer out of a bad spot before a rain. The rain got here before i got the welder put back together. Thats what has me itching for a new one. Other than this and not being able to fine tune amperage, it has been a fair machine. Im just ready to put it in my scrap pile before it does it again.
