Very small job but need a 2" NPT pipe tap. Ideas?

Cut off the old fitting, weld on a new one. Get 3 pipe couplings, cut them in half, you will have 6. :thumbsup:
The cost will probably be less than $10,,, AND you have BRAND NEW THREADS!!

Any chasing of the threads will make the male fitting go too deep,,
and it probably will not seal.

Not on iron pipe thread. The thread is tapered and only gets tighter as it goes in. Removing rust from threads won't create this problem.

Ok, I didn't go back to look who posed the link. The one linked was a external only one.

I just posted a link to the first one I came to. They do make them for internal threads, I just didnt read the description of the one I linked to.

Guess I'm the lucky one.
Years back the neighbor was moving and gave me about 50-60 lbs of pipe taps in a case.
I have every size from 1/8 NPT to 2" NPT in male and female with many duplicates.
In fact I gave a set to my local welding shop as he was always helpful to me.

I think he must have worked in a boiler factory to have those sizes.

I pick up stuff I dont really need at flea markets. I have an assortment of odd ball taps, even some for acme threads. Dont have a 2in pipe tap though.

My $2 - 2" thread cleaner...

The one on the right was my first try... I didn't think about the direction of threads compared to the 'cutting side'. As soon as I set it on the hole, I knew that wouldn't work. I immediately grabbed another plug and flipped it before the grinder.
