Todd,

There's more in your profile under your original "tjm" username. I don't know if that can be transferred to your "tmcd" username. Perhaps a moderator could help with this?

something don't sound right here. if in fact the dealer told u that u had low compression, i would think u would notice that in other ways than just hard starting in cool weather(40 deg. is not cold, its cool) you would not have the power u should with low compression.MHO

Hmmmmm, don't you know about the warranty, if you have not read the warranty? Well, the engine is covered and Kubota does have regional reps and calling Kubota Corp in California will get a response.
We are missing some of the story here, not accusing you of anything but please give the whole story. It could help us out here to help you. Engies do not loose compression with only 200 hours for no reason--all three cylinders have low compression?? I don't think so. You may have carboned up glow plugs due to improper starting procedure which will manifest itself especially when cold. J

I'm also thinking in the lines like TresCrow.. <font color=blue>glow plugs<font color=blue><font color=black> also fuel injectors.

By chance when you check the oil have you notice a bubble..like anti freeze or water etc..on the dip stick.

You could also ask your dealer or another Kubota dealer for Kubota hot line they use.

<font color=blue>...I had them install a block heater thinking that would help. They have had the tractor 2 weeks and they called me today with the bad news. The motor has very low compression and they need to tear it down to find the problem...</font color=blue>

Is it possible... an induced problem by the dealer inadvertently while "punching out the knock-out plug" for the block heater... something else got punched/damaged in the process...? /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif
(of course, Kubota won't warranty any blunders...)

200 hours on a diesel power plant is miniscule... and then have a mini-disaster... you would have had a number of tell tale signs something was wrong with your engine long before this... unless of course you had some catastrophic failure...?

Todd, I agree with the other guys; something ain't right. Several years ago, when I had a problem with a dealer, I wrote a letter to the Kubota headquarters in California (I live in Texas), with a copy to the dealer and a copy to the local Better Business Bureau. A Kubota factory service rep from Dallas came to my home to inspect the tractor, then went to the dealership, and everything got straightened out pretty quickly.

If my memory serves right, I think the warranty does say something about the engine not being covered if you do something like running it without an air filter, but if it's had common sense maintenance and care, I'll bet it'll be covered under the warranty.

We have not had to tear any Kubota engines apart for warrantee work but I find what your dealer told you is bunk! Kubota certainly will deal with it. The low compression is more than likely the reason the tractor won't start at those temps. The reason for low compression needs to be found and fixed. We have them sitting out in the cold at 20 degree's this morning and if they wouldn't start on there own without the block heater I'd be tearing them apart. Kubota would get the bill.

tmcd,

My dealer told me he had a customer with a BX 2200 with about 150 hours , the engine would not start when temperature got below 30 F. They tried everything to get it going, replacing various stuff and still would not start. He said Kubota gave the customer a new tractor and took the problem one back to see if they could duplicate the problem. The tractor went back to the California headquarters, the dealer is located in Pa. He said Kubota rented a freezer box to put the tractor in, they found the problem but I can not remember what he said. Try calling my dealer Paul Histand Tractor and ask for Mike Judkins, 215-348-9041, tell him the guy in NJ with the BX2200 told you the story. Perhaps he can tell you who he worked with in Kubota headquarters and what the fix was.

Hope it helps

Tom
