Hey all,

I just bought a 2544 about 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it.

My story:
For the past week, when leaving for work in the early morning, I notice these round spots of dead, brown grass in different spots. I figured that some type of animal must be taking a leak at night on the grass, and killing these spots.
I was talking to my wife about it, and she just happened to say to me that all the dead spots seem to be in places where I stopped my lawnmower on the lawn (like where I stopped for lunch, and another area where I used the deckwash system).
It's really very weird,,,Am I missing something here? has anyone else experienced this?

It's almost as if the blades were so hot when I stopped, they scorched the grass wherever the deck was covering...or then again, maybe it was an animal????

Her whole idea now has me going nuts!!!

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Anthony (Bucky) /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hmmm.. maybe from the hot exhaust? It is pretty high up on the 2000/2500/3000's, but it does get super hot around that area. Just a guess!

Yes, I have had the same problem! I purchased a 2005 CC2042 about a month ago. I have been seeing light colored "scorched" spots in my lawn. I thought it was my dog at first, but then realized that these spots were where I had stopped the tractor to either move the picnic table or garden hose and left it running. I now shut it off if I'm going to move something and I haven't seen as many spots. I believe it is from the exhaust which comes out very low on the front of the machine. I had a 1325 for 13 years and never saw these type of spots before. The exhaust on that machine was allot higher on the engine. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem? I was going to ask this very same question!

Have fun with your new Cub!

I thought it could be the exhaust as well, however, I had a 2135 for 10 years before buying the 2544. The 2135 exhaust exits the machine exactly the same way that the 2544 does, and I never had this problem.
For some reason, I think the deck area has something to do with it. I'm going to try some "non scientific" tests this weekend and see if I can narrow it down.
If anyone else has seen this, please post! It's driving me nuts!!!

Thanks all-

I had a problem like this, it was doing me in, couldnt figure it out. Anyway I soon worked it out when I parked the mower in the shed, petrol leaking out a cracked hose all over the floor next morning. Tractor juice kills grass, oils too, so if I were you I would check for leaks of any kind, tranny, fuel, oil, anything really.
If not, I'd get experimenting. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Hope this helps

I aree with Mith. I used to get brown spots wherever I stopped my 1450. It was caused by the Hydro fluid leaking on the grass.

you know, I also have this same thing, it does seem that they appear where I park the tractor and let it idle. I will keep an eye out for leaks, but I check my oil and tranny fluid before every mow, and they both read full. I'll also do a little experiment next time I cut the grass and get back to you with my findings.

I Think it is oil or transmission leaking,Not hot air! Buy the way I would not use the deck wash right after cutting grass!the spindles and bearings are hot and water is cold your going have something bad happen! be carefull with getting water in the bearings, wait till it is cool! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

C'mon.. Oil leaking on a brand-spanking new 2544!! I hope that's not the case! well.... mebbe it's from alittle 'left over' oil from a recent oil change? You know how it's nearly impossible to drip any oil anywhere /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

It is very weird! I have checked my engine and tranny oil before every mow and they are both full. The white patches are about 6-8 inches across and 18-24 inches long. it looks like the grass has been scorched. I have a fire pit in the yard and after a big bonfire I will have similar patches of scorched grass around the pit. I'll have to keep investigating.

Thanks for all the help!
