Very weird problem....maybe a coincidence???

Also, I believe if it was a gas or oil leak spraying on to the grass it would kill the grass. I've watered these spots and in several weeks the grass is nice and green again. I checked the lawn this morning and since I have been shutting off the tractor when I get off, I haven't seen any of those white patches.

Very confusing! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

it seems to make sense based on the length of the patches that it would be exhaust, because that's exactly what I've got too, about 18" long, maybe about 3-4" wide, and unless the thing is leaking a major amount of fluid, a gas/oil leak couldn't be that large, as it would most likely be very localized where it would drip

/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gifI would guess you had a lawn fungus such as Dollor Spot or Red Thread. both spring time, early summer fungus. Check with your local lawn service /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I have the same brown spots and have since day 1 with my 2534-54. I do'nt think it's a leak because it shows no mark on my concrete floor and all fluids are topped off. I' also SURE it's not a fungus as it happens where the tractor is stopped at idle and i notice it a day or two after and it greens back up after a couple of weeks could we have a small amount of gas spraying on something like th hydro fan? , I don't smell anything. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

First off, thanks to everyone who responded to this thread. I thought it would sound "nutty" when I first posted it. While I don't wish anyone any hardships, I can say that I'm glad it's not just me!

OK...what next???Who here has a friend on the inside at CC that can tell us more about this??? This is driving me nuts.

Tell you what, they should add "vegetation clearing system" to the list of features in the brochure!

Thanks, guys...

This might sound a little off, but I have centipede in my yard and when I get brown or dead spots, it usually is due to GRUB WORMS. These grubs attract moles in addition to killing your lawn. Most stores who sell lawn and garden supplies sell the necessary chemicals to kill them. Hope this helps /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

There is no way that this is a fungus problem or grass issue. It is the machine.

Tried this again yesterday...stopped the machine on the greenest spot on my lawn, blades off, engine at high idle. Let machine sit in that spot for 10 seconds...

GUESS WHAT? A DEAD SPOT ON MY LAWN THIS MORNING EXACTLY WHERE I STOPPED THE MACHINE!!!!!!

This is NOT A FUNGUS PROBLEM, guys... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

EXACTLY!

Been lurking for months, learned lots of stuff.

This topic hits home with me. I experimented as well, and my brown spots are just where the exhaust on my 2180 blows!

I am now not stopping anywhere on the lawn, but this will become a major headache when I start pulling the cart full of mulch, etc etc and have to start and stop all the time.

The friendly Deere dealer suggested putting 'wrap' on the pipe that I could pick up at a muffler shop.

Any other ideas? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If it was fluid leaking, it wouldn't green up that quick after watering, it would probably have to be dug out and reseeded.. JohnJ

Anti freeze is very hard on lawns. Park the idling tractor on a hard solid surface and see if any spots of fluid appear . Do this after its good and hot.
