Good Day: I have a chance to buy a Vicon 303 spreader, anyone have any pros or cons with them /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I will be using it to sand my driveway a few times a year, that's what it has been used for previously. Light use, stored inside by previous owner. New in 2000, $1,800. $600 used, wants to get rid of it. According to Solex, my Case DX24E has enough hp, I do not intend to overload it though it will take 600 lbs in the hopper. Unit weighs 260 lbs empty.

Joe,
BUY IT WITHOUT ANY HESITATION. THAT WILL BE BEST SPENT MONEY IN YOUR LIFE.

AND MENTIONED PRICE IS STEAL

This is very robust and reliable machine, built for serious ag use, not a "toy" like Cosmo or similar, light built, rotary spreaders.
Only issue will be weight of this machine compare to small rotary spreaders, as it weights about 80kg (200lbs).

I bought older brother of this machine, from 1984, for 500€, in pretty good shape for it's age. Now I'm in process of rebuilding and repainting it.

This machine is very accurate for spreading, and we mainly use it for seeding wheat, and particularly oats, what is almost impossible by rotary type spreader (due to light seed grains).
It's doing excellent job with granulated fertilizer, too.

If you have any particular questions, be free to ask.

ZJ - Thanks for the reply and the pix, now I have an idea of the size in relation to my Case. My DX is nowhere the size of yours but this is for occasional use not my livelihood /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I understand they are good units with a long lifespan. It's one of those items I always said I would get if I found one cheap enough. How big is your farm? What's that tractor? A local product or a EU mfgr?

Joe,

I think your going to have to have some weight up front with your DX24E. Keep your loader on otherwise I think your front end maybe coming up some.

Joe,
My farm is small enough, even for walkbehind (which one I already have /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ). That's a reason why I have two tractors /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This tractor is manufactured in former Yugoslavia, in Slovenia now, under FIAT license. Tractor is y1981, and I added MFWD in y1996.
Motor is 3 cyl, direct injection diesel (smaller brother of today's NH TN engine), originaly 42 hp, tuned to 45hp now /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

BTW, did you decided to buy it? (my tractor and/or spreader) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a Vicon I use to spread lime. As was previously mentioned, the Vicons are capable of precision spreading. Setting it up to handle lime required an optional rubber boot that fits into the discharge nozzle. The boot can be left in afterwards even though the unit is used for spreading other materials.

$600 is a deal. It's probably worth twice that. If it shows up in the classified ads at that price some farmer will break his neck and the speed limit getting over there to buy it.
