Figuring things would never get cheaper, only more expensive, I ordered a Victory ditch mower. On advice from Victory, given that I have a Kubota L3710 with 30 PTO HP, they suggested the BCRL-155 (60"), which is a standard duty job that weights 672 lbs. They have a more expensive mower called the TRIM-56 which weighs 640 pounds and has a 56" cutting width.
They said 1) Y-blades were only good for grass, and 2) the mower should not exceed 30% of the mower's gross weight. I believe my tractor's gross weight is about 4,500 pounds with the loader and filled tires, so the BCRL-155 would hit 15% of that.
My main problems are weeds, some of which have woody stems that can approach 3/4" in diameter, and general cleanup.
Let me know if this sounds like a good choice. I am eager to take my pasture back from the blackberries and beautyberries.
