I need some guidance. Dad's passion was collecting 2 cyl JDs. We never actually got around to restoring any of them because he stayed gone on the big truck until he got sick. But anyway, several of them are definitely restorable. I need some help finding people who want to restore these tractors. I don't want to just haul them to Brinkley's for the yearly clean up salvage sale. Included in the collection are a couple of 60's, one or two 520's, an 830 and I believe a couple of 50's. There is also a 40 behind my house that we drove to where it sits about 4 years ago. There is also an old Oliver and a Minn. Moline out behind the old Dairy barn. Anyone know of a good site to post these where they will bring what they are worth, and more importantly, where someone will actually do something w/ them? I currently have more projects than any 3 men could finish in a lifetime so I have to let something go.
Thanks guys, (and gals!)

I'm sure the classifieds here will get you a whole lot of coverage. However if you wanted a site that pretty much ONLY deals with vintage equipment.. hit one of my regular haunts.

Yesterday's Tractors

There are sites for JD, and the others you mention. Lotsof us guys have many restorations under our belts and look for just this sort of opportunity to help relieve you of unwanted old iron.. .but still keep it out of the scrap heap.

I'd done a 50' JD B myself.. and a couple other odd colors.. though Ford is my specialty.

There is a John Deere 2-cyl club that publishes as well as lists wanted and 'for sale' tractors. If you contact them, you can find out if you need to be a member or not. This club, at least when I belonged, was pretty active and the members were restoring, trading, selling, buying everything related to the 2-cyl. tractors.
Two-cylinder Club info

There are Clubs all around the country for local contact as well. Some great Expo's for meeting other members and contacts.

From what I've seen of their product, K & K Tractor who hail from Shelbyville, Indiana have their act together on restoring and restoration parts more than any one sourse. Check 'em out. Good people.

You might check locally to see if there is a JD club or antique tractor club near you.

I almost (they backed out at the last minute) managed to get one of my Granddad's first tractors donated to a historical museum. It was running, but not restored. They backed out cuz someone came along later and offered a rarer model.

Otherwise, they would have restored it and displayed it.

Maybe find someone deserving locally that will restore it and display it locally??????????

Agree wtih other posters that there are a lot of sites/clubs that can help you.

Just a question. How far are they from running? If they run you would get a better price. Also when I see any equipment that does not run, it's hard to tell if it's a diamon in the rough or junk.

Good luck

The 40 was driven to where it sits about 4 years ago. Its a gas burner and needs carb work but I think it would crank w/ a hot battery and a prime. It was just too small to actually use around here. The 830 was running when we set it up several years ago. To be honest, w/ a pony starting motor and no 3pt, it was too much hassle to use around here. It was too small for just a drawbar tractor when we had 2 5020's and an 806 International for their drawbar capabilities (plus the 806 has a Great Bin loader on it). The 50's and 60' are not running but last time I checked (need to do it again) the engines were not locked up. All of them have been "canned" and most are complete w/ all sheet metal and such. I guess what I need to do is get some pics of them posted somewhere.

As has been mentioned, listing your Deere's for sale on a board or in a publication catering to antique tractor enthusiasts should yield the highest likelihood of these tractors fetching what they are actually worth. Further increasing the odds are advertising them with someone who's focus is predominantly old JD's--i.e. the Two Cylinder Club. Another option that hasn't yet been mentioned along these lines is advertising them in Green Magazine . This publication runs monthly and has 6-10 pages of Deere's advertised for sale. I'm not sure what the requirements are for advertising, but it's another venue to explore.

Dad and I collect old John Deeres as well. We have about 18 Deere's and a handful of other brands. Our JD: 2 A's, 2 B's, H, 50, 3 520's, 530, MI, 420, 3 430's, MT, 1010. Also 2 Farmall Super C's and a Kubota L3710. Dad's favorites are the 520's--he wanted one when he was farming, but couldn't afford it, so when he had the money he bought a few to make up for lost time /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Roughly half of the Deere's and 1 Super C are restored, the rest are work tractors. Dad's a firm believer in having 1 tractor for each implement so you don't have to waste time switching them.

Best of luck selling those tractors.

Perhaps you should try eBay and auction them. Lots of 2-cylinder John Deere's have been sold at nice prices.
