Visiting Vermont???

Garry,
Delorme has a web site. It is a book format map and is expensive at ~ $18.00

Here is a link to Vermont Living Magazine Guide to Covered Bridges . It should be helpful.

One last tip. A lot of roads in northern VT are dirt. When we were looking for a camp I often felt like we were trespassing or on a private road because it was dirt. But we weren't as many of the public roads are dirt. So as you go the byways looking for covered bridges don't be afraid of a dirt road.

Thanks Derek! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'll add that information to our folder of Vermont pamphlets. My wife has a binder with separate folders for every place along the way. She's putting the information for each place in that folder so that all she will do is pull it out to find whatever we want to find out.

Me? I'd just ramble around until I stumbled over something I found interesting! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

If you have the time, the Finger Lakes area south of the Rochester to Syracuse area are worth a visit. Great scenery and the leaves will be colorful. Also some wonderful small wineries and many many antique co-ops.

Again if you have the time, get off I 90 and travel the old 5 and 20 route that passes the north ends of the lakes.

Hi Tim! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the tips! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I'm not sure if the navigator has us travelling through that area, but it sounds like it would be worth our time. We REALLY enjoy visiting wineries! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Any trip we've ever taken we've always brought back a case or two of local wines to share with our friends.

And as I mentioned earlier, we also enjoy antique shopping.

I'll check out how this area fits into our plans! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

<font color="blue"> Rancar was actually the one who got it all started with his thread about the Shelburne Museum.

Haven't forgotten about this. However, things are starting to look problematic. I'm hiring a bulldozer and operator to finish my hedgerow clearing job. It'll be in this time frame. Can't forecast right now which week it'll be.....depends on when my tenant farmer takes his corn crop in. Whichever week it'll be I need to take the week off to assist the operator in cutting stumps off tree boles. It's more efficient this way since these stumps could weigh a couple thousand pounds each and the dozer can handle this a lot better than my 4710 can. Just keep posting in this thread what everyone's plans are. If I can get away....yes, I'll be there.

Good to hear from you Bob. I was beginning to think maybe you had taken a couple of weeks off and we wouldn't be able to connect.

We'll keep this thread alive, so keep checking in. Once I finally nail down all of the dates and we know exactly where we'll be and when, I'll let you all know, maybe with some PM's so we don't bore everyone else! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Just real busy these days Garry. Just returned last evening from out of country.....away on business. Real busy at work as well. Used to have time to check in a few times a day......now I'm lucky if I can quickly browse for 5 minutes or so. Anyway, keep me posted on dates you'll be in Lake George, NY. You'll like it here, awfully pretty in the fall. Lake George is only about 45 minutes from me. I 'd love to get away, even if for a few hours, to meet you for lunch or dinner some evening when you're in town. Keep me posted.

Bob, I have been waiting for a job that takes me near Cambridge. I have three jobs to do in Massachusetts this fall. The first one will probably be either late next week or the week of October 6th. If I end up having a few extra hours to visit I will try to give you as much notice as possible. If we can't meet up on this job we still have two more chances this fall. It looks like it will only be an hour or so out of my way, considering where Cambridge is, I probably will not get any jobs that take me closer to Cambridge than these three. I have attached a map showing the route I will be taking to the first job in Springfield MA.

Pete,

If I ever head out that way I'll be hoping to leave with a four-legged passenger or two (and I don't mean cats or sheep, either). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Spencer,

Where else in Mass are you going? I'm 35 miles north of Boston if you're ever looking for a cold beer, hot meal & warm bed. The star on the map marks our house. Also convenient if you're headed to Maine.

We've actually slid over into hard core rescue where we deal one at a time with badly abused dogs. Takes months of work to turn them around, then begins the search for the perfect home.

Lots of folks think we keep a kennel of potential adoptive dogs, but in truth it's just us, our core pack of four goldens, and usually one frightened, cowering rescue at a time. Right now, because one of our own is recovering from knee replacement surgery, we have no rescues at all.

But come visit anyway! We can eat that darned rooster that sleeps in the tree and poops on my truck! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Stephen,

It looks like we'll be going right by your area. After we spend the week in Vermont, we're planning on heading over toward the coast. Need to get some of those good lobster meals! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I know we'll be going to Portalnd, and then we want to go down into Boston for a couple of days, as we've never been there. We'll be doing the regular touristy things in Boston, but am always willing to hear about some of the more unusual visiting tips from those familiar with the area! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hazmat, I have attached another map showing all three jobs I have in MA. It looks like the job I have in Methuen is quite close to you. Right now that job is scheduled for around the week of October 13th. I quit drinking alcohol on July 2nd but I am still eating. With you being that close I am sure we can get together.

Pete,

I knew you weren't equipped with the adoption kennel deal but did remember you telling of having a few more than just your core four at one time. I didn't know you'd gone into the severe rescue area. I know it's got to be tough to see such a beautiful and kind hearted animal like a Golden in that kind of condition. You have my sincere admiration for what you're doing. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Spencer,

Methuen is very close. I drive thru on my way to work In Tewksbury everyday. I'll send you a PM with my contact info if you'd like to meet for a meal.

Gary,

Lots of interesting stuff to check out in & around Boston

Take the duck tour (WWII duck boats drive around town & in the river)

The freedom trail walk hits the highlights.

You can take a ferry out to the harbor islands - one has an old fort on it.

also Peabody Essex Museum is north of Boston www.pem.org/homepage/

Newburyport is just east of me, some small shops restaurants & a marine museum. It is where the Coast Guard started. East of NBPT is Plum Island - Federal wildlife refuge (barrier island with lots of birds).

Salem, MA is a big tourist trap in October with the witch trials & all.

Lowell, MA has a textile museum.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. If there is anything in particular that you are looking to do, let me know. It might jog my memory.

Pete,

I'm heading towards you this weekend. Going to vacation with the inlaws in Quiche.

A college friend of my wife's owns the Season's pass Inn in Stowe. I'm hoping to get up there sometime this winter to go skiing. I'll let you know if we do.

Thanks Stephen! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We'd already figured we'd do the Freedom Walk.

The Ducks? - Well, we have those at the Wisconsin Dells. Would we see other things that we wouldn't see on the freedom Walk if we took the Duck tour?

Hadn't talked about Salem. Might consider it if going on a weekday would help avoid crowds.

If the wife has any other questions, or we think of anything else, I'll let you know.

Thanks again! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You'll see more of the Charles River on the duck tour.

Duck Tour Route

The web site reminded me of a couple things you should check out.

Museum of Science
Aqaurium

If you are heading south of Boston at all, Plymouth is kind of neat.
