The 1610/1601 also has a separate relay for the warning light. It can be removed if you get OEM reg. It will have an adapter harness to make it fit.

OKAY...here's the update on my voltage problem...

I changed the voltage regulator and am still getting the same reading from the battery with the tractor not running and running. The reading is 12.60 volts from the battery regardless of whether or not the tractor is running.

I read on an older thread where I could stick my volt meter tester into the connector where the wires connect to the voltage regulator to test the generator. According to the thread, if I don't get any reading, the generator is bad. I am getting a steady reading so I have to assume the generator is OK.

I am puzzled /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Try changing the batt. cables and make sure all the connections are solid. I had the same problem. The voltage regulator and alt. was working but the new battery wouldn't hold a charge or charge back when running... Changed the mech. voltage regulator several months later cause it was showing 17-18 v. Thought it might damage the new batt. Put the new Datsun 510 on and now shows 14.6 v.

Hmm.. I'm thinking that if your voltage ont he battery doesn't change after starting up and a new regulator.. then that narrows it down to a bad alternator.. or a wireing problem.

The fact that you are reading static battery voltage is telling you that you have a no-charge condition...

Got any AC votlage out the back of the alternator.. that would be more of a go/no go test..

"I am getting a steady reading so I have to assume the generator is OK."

Slow down and analize the situation. What kind of reading, and how are you getting it from the generator. According to the YM240 manual the YM2000 has the rectifier in the gen. as opposed to some other models that have it in the reg., therefore when you unhook the reg. from the gen. you should read an unregulated, but rectified voltage of 20-30vdc from the gen if it is good. (Only try this for a few seconds or it will fry).

Take the generator or alt off the tractor and take it down to Autozone. They will put it on their tester for free and skip the guess work.

What's the voltage you are seeing from the Alt? Check at alt, in and out from the reg as well.

Need to find source of problem, alt, wiring or reg.

I am getting a AC Voltage reading of 27 volts from the generator

Does anyone have their YM240 service manual handy, (mine is 800 miles away). I am pretty certain, if it has the correct generator, the rectifier is in there, and raw voltage should be DC, otherwise that Datsun regulator does not have a rectifier and will not work....maybe the rectifier is not rectifying.
