What sort of additive? Do you have to pour a bottle into the filler at each refueling?

Cool! Thanks, I've not heard of that one before. I'll have to check it out. Is it easily available? I like Stanadyne but you just can't go pick it up at WallMart.

Long ago and far away (1960's Berkeley ) I worked in a gas station. Couldn't believe my eyes when a customer bought a quart of motor oil and poured it in the gas tank before filling up.

It was a late model -at that time- Saab, a 2-cycle automobile, which specified this as normal refueling.

One of my German co-workers (grew up behind the wall) tells us funny stories about his first car ... a Trabant https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trabant
Apparently it is a super smoky car. There was a waiting list for them. By the time you took delivery of one, many people would put in for another one because it took so long to get them ... it would be 10,15,20 yrs. before you could get a replacement. Ahh, Communism.

I have a 12.5 kw (about 20 hp) Isuzu diesel generator that is a gem. Essentially like our old 240D engine but about 1/3 the hp. Has no emission controls. Not even sure it has EGR. Don't think so. Uses about 0.2 gph of diesel and does essentially the whole house. Wife even used the clothes drier during one power outage. It has 6 circuits that are allowed in only if the generator has space for them. Got the new circuit breaker box and these 6 control circuits from the Generac people. The Isuzu came from Central Maine Diesel.

May it was me. :laughing: I owned one of these when I was in my late teens. Saab sold a concentrate that didn't smoke as much as outboard motor oil, but I was a cheap kid and I burned the outboard motor oil.

Heck this was ordinary 30 wt detergent motor oil off the display rack between the pumps. (Old School marketing).

If he had asked me to go fetch a quart can of 2-cycle oil then it would have just seemed like something I hadn't seen before. This was 1964 Berkeley, it wasn't unusual to encounter something never before imagined. :laughing:

I like to think we were at that time creating those legends that drew kids from all over the world to San Francisco a couple of years later. Rolling Stones on the radio? The whole city opened their windows and cranked up the volume. It really was a time of magic in the air.

The kids who soon arrived to share in it - many of them understood, many were just disgruntled kids from all over, and a few were outright predators to the innocents. It got real strange after a while.

But it didn't start out that way.

Here's an echo of the 60's, 50 years later. Mick Jagger onstage with Taylor Swift, Nashville, this week. There will always be magic in the air if you can hear it.
