Welcome to the west coast. Snohomish is beautiful. Just be careful of river front property. The Skagit river likes to expand its' banks this time of year. We were new to the area back in 92 and found a beautiful home on 5 acres w/ river front access. I had visions of walking out my door and catching salmon and steelhead. As I walked the pastures, I began to wonder about the soil and went to the local water district for a map. Sure enough, that parcell was in a high flood area. Funny how tthe realtor never mentioned that. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
As for attachments, if you get a tiller, plan on something to pick up rocks. I've got a wonderful batch of them coming up right now.

Thanx Larry! In my house hunting so far Ive seen alot of squashy land. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Ill keep your niput in mind about land near rivers. I hadnt thught about overflowing rivers!

As for the roots thats far better than rocks. My garden in NH grows those really well. BTW I can't believe how warm it stays here in the winter! It seems the growing season must be very long. I weird to see birds in the wnter too!

Back to dealers for a moment. Do they like to mess w/ compacts or is it just a side line? Since this area has far more ag than NH I was wondering how they view compacts. Sat Im planning to visit the MF, NH and Mahindra dealers north of where Im staying. I suppose Ill see then what the score is.

Thanx again jimg

Hi guys,
Just thought you might like to know a little about Brim from a brim guy. The MV store is closed on sat till march for winter hrs. The issaquah store will be open this sat from 9am till 1pm. Compact tractors have become mainstay for brim but we still sell the big stuff. According to the NH rep Brim tractor is the 3rd largest NH dealer in the nation by number of units sold.
Brim can be very competitive but there are a few factors that change the price from east to west coast. but that is for another thread. But brim does go the extra mile. I do not know many other dealers that actually put all tractors over 25hp on the dyno as part of the predelivery process.

I wish you luck with the move and welcome to one of the most beautiful places around

Ill plan to be there at the Issaquah store bright and early then. Ill be interested to get a quote. So are you a salesman or what? Youre profile isnt filled out well...

JIMG: Hello neighbor and welcome to the neighborhood!

Snohomish has been our home since 1978. We love the community, rural but not far from urban centers. It's sound advice to be careful when buying land in lowlands near rivers, the Snohomish River in particular. I shared your same sentiments about how green this area is in the winter when I arrived in western Washington 1975.

I have heard only good things about Brim Tactor. Another dealership to consider is Coastline New Holland in Everett, this is closest to Snohomish. I get my warranty work done there and they do an excellent job. The manager is Lane Langolf FYI.

Stop by any time to talk tractor! I'm in the phone book (Roger Portmann). I live on Dutch Hill (Hill=Away From Floods...)

Hi Roger,
I was planning to visit Coastline too on Sat. Thanx for the invite...Ill give you a ring shortly...thanx. I was looking at a 5ac place in Snohomish...forget the st right off but from the pics it looked prime, flat and all grass, fenced w/ a pond, barn etc. I think they might have horses there now given evidence in the pics. I dont think this place is near running water though. Looks like alot of the valley over between Snowqualmie and Duval is fairly wet...lots of standing water for sure. It must be late before they can get machinery in there.

Thought Id stop back in and give a run down on what I discovered this w/e from the 3 dealers I visited.

1) Brim (NH) in Issaquah
Models I was interested in: TC30, TC33DA, TC35DA and TC40DA
My salesman was Nathan Jameson(tractornate in this forum). For sure this guy was willing to please and really rolled out the red carpet!!! I've never been treated like this in any dealership Ive gone to. He was more than willing to spend all the time necessary to hear what I wanted, make suggestions and show equipment. Given local prices I think his initial quote was reasonable. Ill go so far as to say his price was even ballpark w/ internet pricing when you factor in shipping, taxes and prep service. Im basing this on quotes I got from Corriher. I could say alot more about buying locally... I was also surprised at the list of prep items they do prior to delivering a new machine so that its trouble free right off. This sort of attention is worth money esp if down time costs you in some way. If there were problems they were willing to provide a loaner and be flexible about pickup (if that was necessary). Based on first judgements I would certainly not hesitate to recommend Brim. I would do business w/ them. After all was said and done I'm only considering a TC40...probably w/ a hydro transmission.

2) Town & Country (MF and Cub) Monroe
Models I was interested in: 1433
This dealer was closed. However, they didn't look terribly prosperous w/ 6 new machines and a hand full of used. I think this must be a sideline as it was part of a tire store.

3) Barnett (JD) Snohomish
Models I was interested in: 4410, 4510 and 4120
My salesman was Dave Bates. While he was helpful if asked he also didn't go to any great length to offer info that might have been helpful. He didn't know the tractor lines well as he was a 'lawn mower salesman'. Thats OK though b/c much of what I wanted to know was in the JD literature. Between us we figured out most of the missing pieces. His price on the tractor was competitive w/ NH (the implements were WAY more expense though). I found that the ten series was being phased into other lines and after some discussion figured that the 4120 matched my needs best. I must say that the 4120 is a super machine and exclipses comparable NH machines in most categories. This is certainly a case of the machine selling itself. However, given the whole picture it would be a tough sell based on the inflated implement prices he was quoting. I still like the tractor though and am planning to revisit this dealer when its not raining and do a test ride on a machine equipped w/ a loader.

I hope this was helpful and I'm sure I've missed some infos that might be important. If you have questions I'll be glad to answer them if I can.

Well you didn't mention Farmers Equipment Co., the Case/IH dealership on hwy 20. They look like there getting into the CUT/SubC with the new Case line.
I drove by there several time when I was shopping and their line was mainly aimed at the larger farm equipment. Now they have the Case line that looks an auful lot like the NH line /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif. Only a couple of miles west on 20 from I-5.

Hi Larry,
Sorry, I forgot to mention that my review wasnt exhaustive. If other dealers worth visiting exist then Im all for having a look. So, thanx for the infos on the Case dealer. I did look at the Case website and decided that Burlington was too far for my Sat trip along w/ everything else I was doing. However, now that I know they stock compacts Ill take the time to visit them. Although, depending on where I'm living that might be a long haul for warranty work. Have you had any business dealings w/ them? thanx again jimg
