Obviously I'm new to tractor buying! I'm making do with an ATV right now, but can see that I need something more.

I am thinking of purchasing new rather than used and wanted to know if tractor dealers have year-end clearances like car dealers?

When do the new models come out? Is there a best time of year to shop?

Also, are tractor dealers able to negotiate price?

Just wondering before I hit the showroom..

Yes you can negotiate for the best price.

Prices vary according to location though.

Dependent upon where you live, you may be happy with the best price you get or less than happy when ypu compare your options against others reported here at TBN.

I would get quotes from all interested dealers within 50 miles and see how they shake out annd take it from there...

I would suggest you vist a few dealers, get a feel for what tractor you might need and like, then when you have it narrowed down some then start talking selling price.different dealrs and different areas somethimes dictate the selling price.

About 20 acres of pasture. The rest is forest.

Need the tractor for grading the driveway, moving rocks and trees around, brush hog, plant food plots, etc. ATV just isn't cutting it!

Tractors from year to year pretty much stay the same. About every three years you will see new models coming out. At that time you may be able to get one of the old models new still sitting on the lot for a good price. If it was me, don't wait, you will pay more for the new model. I would just go out and negotiate the best deal when you are ready. In the meantime start getting to know the dealers in your area. You want to buy from the dealer you feel will give you the best service after the deal.

Welcome to then world of tractors!!!

The new models do not come out every year like cars and there is no end of year closeout sale. However when new models come out they usually replace or add to the existing line of tractors and some offers on the model being replaced might be accepted. However, the problem is that the newer model usually has something that you want and would add if you could to the older model. Waiting for a specific time of year like cars is not done. Now is the time the Dealers are slow and you might get a better deal.

Now we need to know what do you intend to do with the tractor and what implements do you need.

What dealers are nearby?

On how many of the acres will you be using the tractor. For example will you be mowing 50 acres once a month or 10 acres once a year. Will you be clearing out woods, making trails, tilling a garden, digging up stumps??

If you look at the Kubota line I would concentrate on the Grand L4330 to the L5030 with a LA853 Loader and tooth bar, box blade, and 6' rear rotary mower at the minimum.

Generally:
I would say a 40-50hp tractor with FEL.
HST transmission.
If you have an extra 6k a BH would be nice.
A 4N1 bucket or a grapple bucket or a grapple added to a regular bucket to move around the trees and rock would be nice.

Extra hydraulic remotes for Top and tilt would be nice.
