That's hard to even imagine. If you're that close to a large enough population to support a dozen Starbucks, your farm ground taxes must be out of this world!

Surprisingly, farm taxes are reasonable.

Average home selling price is down lately. Around $850K. Was hovering either side of a million a few years back.

As far as I know, there's only one, maybe two SBs within 40 miles.

As far as I'm concerned, that's three too many.

My wife's parents temporarily moved in with us today. Her dad fell down his stairs and broke several ribs. He just got out of the hospital, and I thought he was doing surprisingly well, but then he started screaming bloody murder.

It turns out he had dozed off and unconsciously took a deep or sudden breath, so he woke up in terrible pain.

Other family members will be delivering groceries, and we'll be completely isolated for a while. If he caught a bug on top of this, I don't think it would take much to do him in.

Welcome close to the home of Starbucks. In Seattle you can stand on one downtown corner and see three Starbucks. No kidding. Victoria is close to the epicenter. :D

It's difficult in so many ways... good you have a network in place which is wonderful.

I have a referral interview for 8 hours daily companion help for Mom next week to cover when I am at work... it has come down to that or I have to resign.

The gamble is she has been totally isolated the last 7 weeks except for me which is good for Covid-19 but only having me is wearing thin and she incessantly asks why no one comes to see her and she raised me better than to stop attending church.

She is just lost alone... I tried to do a skype meeting for work and it was a disaster... she kept coming in and interrupting and getting annoyed when I said I needed a minute... let's say a repeat for work wouldn't go well for me and I know it would bother her old self to no end if she could realize it.

All we can really do it is take it one day at a time... tomorrow is another day.

Oh man that's rough.

Hopefully the hospital could allow unpaid family care leave with return rights. You're too valuable for them to lose.

There has to be someone out there to do companion care if you pay far above ordinary caregiver rates. For my mother at 96, bedridden in her own home but bright enough to give lots of orders, I was near the end paying a salary higher than what I had been earning before I retired. For some reason the Fijian immigrant community has lots of 'aunties' working in Northern California to send money home and they are paid well. For them its a cultural value to treat the elderly with the highest respect, and they are worth what they ask. Maybe ask around in the convalescent hospitals where your patients eventually go.

Good luck with this.

It sure will be interesting what the new normal will be in the coming months. Boeing factory workers in the Seattle area are coming back to work next week. All will be required to wear masks and practice safe distancing. They are encouraged to bring their own masks. Can I coin this new acronym here? BYOM. If you don't bring your own, one will be provided for you according to the press release.

It reminds me of the first time I went to a fancy restaurant and a tie was required. As a starving college student that couldn't barely tie a tie, let alone own one (seem to recall my dad tried to 'hang' me a few times on special occasions). I was given a funky one at the door. It was a clip on and I thought... wow! Okay, I can do this tie thing.

Hopefully it will work out for you. That's a nasty disease, and a horrible ending for somebody who led a full life.
My father died from Alzheimers and it's a hard thing to watch.

I'll try to say this without offending anyone. I'm not worried about offending Terry. Maybe some others....

Terry is the most "country" guy I've met here. He lives on his farm surrounded by "city". He utilizes the convenience of that situation. He retains his "country" style and never acts like a "city" guy.
