Walkway/path suggestions?

Well...the heatwave as made progess sloooow! Can't even let the tractor do most of the work without bathing in sweat! I decided to use railroad ties for the retaining wall instead of rock, since I couldn't locate enough "free" rock. I laid the first course by hand, then I was able to use the BH and thumb to set the second and third courses fairly close (I'm getting better at this BH stuph!).
Still a ways to go...but I'm getting there!

I went to a class on trail building in the State Park. Most of it was PC BS, but they did have a few good ideas.

One was to use rebar to anchor your edges in place. They drilled a half inch hole through the log and pounded a half inch length of rebar through it, and into the ground. Three or four of these, depending on how long the log was, would anchor it in place very nicely.

They also talked about ways to finish the trail.

Blacktop is the prefered material, but it's expensive and dificult to install further out in the woods.

Mostly they use mulch. It's easy, cheap and very effective.

Thanks Eddie...I used 5/8" rebar 2' long to anchor the base ties, then 12' long pieces to anchor the next row to the previous row. This has worked well where I've used the RR ties elsewhere. I found a couple of truckloads of free mulch about a half mile from my place...so I suppose that's what I'll be using for the path.
