How about Bamboo? Recently I saw and advertisement for different varieties that grow from 4 feet to 60 feet. Some spread and some don't. Sorry that I don't have the address. It was sort of pricey I thought.

Forty years ago I planted White, Scotch and Austrian Pine to serve as a windbreak and other natural considerations. The past ten years the pine wilt diseases have taken about 50 trees. It has kept me busy cutting and burning. This disease is rampant from the Rockies to the east coast so I understand.

Interesting the natural areas on my property, including the area I want to add barrier material to, have natural bamboo, but it's only ~3' tall & nowhere does it grow very dense at all. Kinda 1 stalk here & 1 stalk there. I've heard bad things about the kind that spread, but non-spreading might work; will investigate that, too.

Consider forsythia, easy to start, just find a bush, cut some canes and place them in water till they root then plant. Forsythia grows very fast and in early Spring it produces beautiful yellow blossoms. I have forsythia that is about 10 foot high.

Lelands make a good fast growing screen tree, but they are more along the lines of an arborvitae than a true cypress. Among other things, they will not tolerate wet ground like a real cypress would. Lelands are also evergreens, whereas a true cypress will drop needles over the winter.

If it's a wet area, coastal willow makes a good fast growing privacy tree, but it's not quite a screen tree, plus it's deciduous, so you'd want to establish a grove of them. They end up looking very natural and graceful though. Ash trees will also tolerate wet ground.

In my area we have to have something deer repellent and that will not grow too high because of view ordinances.

Oleander and Bottle-brush are the most common.

Cyptomaria. We planted these plus dwarf hollies in between forward of the Cyptomarias.

Switch-Cane. Good visible barrier. Stays thick in winter. Can always cut a fishing pole. good luck

Take a look at the Austree Hybrid Willow. Can grow 10 feet per year but requires religious watering the first couple of years. A drip system works well.

My suggestion, check out ....
Russian Olive Tree Elaeagnus
We have a hedge in back and it blocks the view, does not need any up-keep if you don't mind a thick high wild hedge.
