Want a new laptop but do I want Windows 8?

What browser is the old laptop running?

The new laptop is running IE11 and the old desktop is running IE10.

In IE11 the ActiveX filter seems to disable JavaScript as well as I had the same problem as Bird until I unchecked it..

The default setting is OFF in the W8.1 installed on my wife's pc.
Bird said his was OFF too.
I wonder why yours was "ON" as default?

Ron, mine are the same except the first item "Close unused folders . . . ." is checked and "Enable flip ahead . . ." is not checked. But the ones related to scripts are the same.

Can you go to your Banks site without signing in and look around. If a few people have complained they may have the solution posted on there.

You might also copy the error message and Google it to see what might be causing the problem.

Some banks, probably most, leave cookies on your computer, so if someone tries to sign in from a new device, they come up with all kinds of things you have to do to ID yourself.
You are saying, as I recall, that you can't even complete the first step of signing in, without getting the error?

Folks, I really appreciate all the information and help. I've checked everything all of you recommended, and everything shows that JavaScript IS enabled. So I reckon my next step will be to contact the credit union next week. It's odd that I get that error message on the new laptop, but not on the old desktop.:confused3:

Bird are you looking for the credit union by name and location When I type in my credit union there is locations all over the United States. all just wanting your name address and bank # .Go ahead and type in SS# they will appreciate it.
Like feeding a minnow in a shark tank.
Also I have a online bank acct. to credit union and after passing all the check points they ask for the account # Just seems a
safer way.
First time a lady asked if I wanted to sign up for on line banking Told her( guess not every time I put a check in little diskette slot it chews it up) The look on her face was worth the comment.

Some day you will look back and Win 8 or W.1 will still be a cuss word.

I started out on Netscape and still have/use a Netscape address (which diverts to AOL)

Went to Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird because of all the customising/addons/themes you could do with them. (the same reason I never considered Apple)
