It's a proportioning valve sweetheart.....:)

I'm completely floored by your modesty.....

I wonder if its an "Mentor" brand flow control valve with the aluminum block housing as it sounds like one of thier units?

:)

Don't believe so. The builder of his unit uses Charr-Lynn components and Parker Valving.

Relief valve isn't the correct term. It's a proportioning valve. The adjustment knob acts on a needle valve and check ball system to divert a percentage of the fluid into bypass while maintaining a pre-set pressure. The tighter the needle becomes, the less fluid goes into bypass and the more fluid acts on the hydraulic motor.

I'm happy the story ended well.

not sure of the brand on it. its the silver valve. Its a simple adjustment. Loosen the nut and turn the allen head screw.

grsthegreat, I got to thinking instead of changing the adjustment from a powdery snow to heavy wet snow and back couldn't you just set it on ONE setting for use on any kind of snow?

If you are going to split hairs - how about the real and proper name ---
it is "Pressure Regulating Valve"

well, i was told that i would be safer using the lower settings early in the season and for light snow to protect the auger, etc. at too high of a setting rocks, branches, etc can cause damage by preventing the unit to disengage. The first snows of the season are the ones that really mess with my equipment. that was when the majority of the shear bolts on my old machine would break.

well....that was the shortest snow season ever HAHA....

I just did a touch up on the paint to the plow and blower, and put them away. I chickened out about taking off the blower unit ... at least for a few weeks just in case la nina2012 hits with a vengeance....but i somehow doubt it.

All snow has melted except for small patches in the trees. how about your areas??

Well... I guess different people and different manufacturers call them... well... differently.
Sun Hydraulics calls it an adjustable needle valve cartridge.

Just another split hair. :D

im going to stick with the official "thing-a-mabob" that the wife calls it....therefore she will know what im referring to
