Warer Well Help Please

Hi all. My jet pump from the well (sandpoint) went bad this weekend and I happened to have a new HF pump on hand. Hooked it up, stopped the leaks in my new plumbing and we have water again. Here is my question. The new HF pump has an air bladder tank as part of the pump. The plumbing from the old pump went to a larger holding tank. The pressure in the larger holding tank is 26 psi. the pressure in the small tank as part of the pump is 28 psi. No water is going into the larger tank. What should the balance be between the 2 tanks? Or alternately, is there a way to bypass the tank that is part of the pump to discharge water into the larger tank or even better not worry about it? Thanks guys and gals. Your advise is always appreciated.

Is there a check valve between the new pump/bladder and the old larger tank that is preventing water from going that direction?

The better/bigger your pressure tank, the longer your pump will last is what I've been told.

no, the check valve is between the well and the pump. The inlet to the bigger tank is just a drop down from a tee in the discharge line from the pump that feeds the house. Thanks for the input.

Set it up so the larger tank is just a bump in the discharge line.

If I understand it, what could be happening is the new pump/bladder hits it's preset pressure of 28 psi and shuts off. When you draw water by opening a spigot, some of the water should go into the larger tank and some comes out the faucet. But flow to the faucet will be greater because there is no resistance. That would leave the larger tank mostly empty.

I think I would try to plumb the pressure control switch to be sensing pressure in the large tank if that isn't where it is now.

disconnect the cutoff pressure switch on the small pump tank and wire it to the pressure switch on th big tank.

Set them both to the same air pressure. I'm assuming the bigger tank is a bladder tank as well. The more storage you have the less cycling your pump will do.

I'm a bit late to the feast but...

It should be set up so all flow goes through the larger tank, i.e., pump output to small tank, out of there into large tank then out into the distribution system. May not be possible if there is no second outlet on the large tank.

No pics because I won't be there until the weekend. I will try to describe setup as it exists. Sand point into the ground. piping into the new pump which has its own bladder tank. (HF Stainless steel model). discharge from the pump goes to a tee. Bottom of the tee goes to the existing larger (bladder?) holding tank. other outlet of tee goes to the house. Pressure in larger existing tank is 26 psi. pressure in bladder tank attached to pump is also 26 psi. I did not look to see if larger tank has another outlet because I was so dang happy that I had water, i left it alone. Then doing thinking (Iknow that is a mistake) i generated this thread. What do you guys think?
