Warmest Boots, which are best?

I have three sets of boots. My shoe size is 11. The one on the right are probably 20 year old Sorrels - my everyday boots. I don't even wear socks with them. They are always by the door. The middle one are the ones I bought a few years ago - my dress boots. The pair on the left are Cabelas good to -100F. They aren't walking boots because they are heavy and have so much insulation in the bottom, it feels like walking in soft sand, but if you are standing around in the winter, they keep your toes toasty.:)

I got some sorels like your -100 Cabelas. They are the warmest I've ever owned and they seem to be pretty light. Even in size 10 they are very big though and I don't drive with them, although the seem to be OK on my tractor. It has to be below -10C before I use them otherwise your feet just sweat the whole time... Normally I use my regular sorels which are fine for a couple hours outside with any sort of activity.

Depending on the weather, I use either my Scott Snowmobile boots or my Salomon Scramble boots.

It'a rare that it gets below -25C here, so those pretty much cover it for me. haven't had an excuse to wear either this year :(

Good for sitting still and not doing much

Good for active use: shovelling etc.

Insulated boots with porous liners (like felt) have to be kept dry to remain effective. Whatever type of boot you get, you have to either put it on a dryer rack (we have them over our forced-air heat ducts) or remove the liner periodically to dry them. I have a collection of liners salvaged from years of worn-out boots that I use to switch-out when one set is drying.

I have a pair of LaCrosse boots that I use for winter/hunting boots. I have had them for about 25 years. The Sorrels are popular but the collar can collect snow which when it melts funnels down towards your feet. I wanted a taller boot without a collar so I went with the LaCrosse boots. These are the closest model to what I have:

For cold weather I was always taught to wear cotton socks, wool socks and then your lined boots, my feet never get cold.

I never could do the sorrel boots because they are big and I feel clumsy in them. They also don't fit in my stirrups while elk hunting. My wife has a pair of Danners that have 1000 grams of insulation. She is famous for having cold feet but these keep her feet nice and toasty even at -40*f. I wear a pair of Irish Setter (made by Redwing) that have 600 grams of insulation, and have never had cold feet. But I generally don't get cold feet. Both of these boots are gore-Tex so they are waterproof too.

I also have Lacrosse boots. Have sat outside all day during hunting season and had warm feet. Also use them plowing snow with the tractor.
