Warn 424

Has anyone installed a Warn 424 (front drive disconnect) on their ATV? Satisfied with it?

I'd like to know about the Warn 424 myself, both our Foreman 450's are full time 4wd and the heavy steering is a PIB. Is installation a DIY project?

I just recently purchased a 424 for my Rancher 4x4, I did a lot of research and from what I found, it's a dependable unit that turns good riding 4x4 into great riding machines, the instructions were pretty simple, I'm a fair amateur (shade tree) mechanic, with a pretty good selection of tools, plan to install it when I get a break in the weather and the tree dries out, http://www.atvtime.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi
this site is where I read some about it. I'll let you know after I get it installed, my only concern is that the front axle is solid so in the turns 1 wheel can't spin faster than the other like a 2wd machine can, but we'll see how it goes.

Installed it last night, took about 3 hrs, not exceptionally difficult. could tell a big difference on the first ride, my brother in law rode it and said it rides just like his 2wd, now he wishes he had bought 4x4 and installed the 424

Cattoon - Where did you get yours? I see them for $220 on ebay from what appears to be a legitimate seller. Much better than the $300 or so I have seen on other sites.

I installed the 424 on my Honda Rubicon about a year ago. It has made riding much more enjoyable and much easier on the arms. It is a DIY project, although getting the front propeller shaft back in took a lot of muscle and swearing. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Do you install it from underneath? Or thru the side? I have a Rancher. Don't know how much difference that makes.

Installed thru left side, pull the clips from the fender, and the hex bolt, remove the inner fender, pull off the skid plate, loosen front diff and have some help to pull front diff forward while you pull the shaft out. you have to use three pieces off the old shaft, worst thing about mine was getting the boots on the drive shaft in place, make sure to slide the o rings towards the middle of the shaft /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif, there is an anti rotation strap that is mounted to keep the unit from turning, my suggestion is to read the manual completely, then while installing it read 2 pages ahead during each step, would not hesitate to install another one, would definitely be easier the 2nd time around, and not having to work in the dark and in the dirt would have been a huge bonus too /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif , but I couldn't wait.
