wash and wax

   / wash and wax #21
I suspect those of us who don't wax, vs those of you that do, may use our machines in significantly different ways. Thus the difference.

I bought mine to work. And in my discussions with my dealer (who sells mainly to farmers) told me in no uncertain terms "don't wash this like your car. There are too many places for water to infiltrate components where it shouldn't be. And, if you do wash it, make sure it's running at the time. The best thing you can do is take a leaf blower and remove the dust and dirt, clean your air filter daily, and perform scheduled maintenance". (It's in quotes, because he got in my face when he said it  )

I have pressure washed the undercarriage after working in mud, but try very hard not to pressure wash the engine. And I leave the excess grease around the fittings and FEL pins to seal out more dirt infiltrating the pins. I've had to remove them a couple of times, to clean out the grease channel and it's no fun.

I keep it garaged whenever it's not in use.

So if you're 5' away, it's not a show piece. It's a workhorse. But from 50' it looks fine. ( just like me! )

I envy all of you guys who wash and wax yours at will. I do my vehicles regularly, but I don't go 4-wheeling with them, or pull trailers thru the fields, or work them at all really. My tractor isn't a vehicle to me. It's a tool.
To each his own. :drink:

I bought my tractor as a tool also. An expensive tool.
No different that our car. A tool to get from point A-B and groceries.
My truck is a tool to get from point A-B, haul what needs to be hauled in the bed and pull my trailers when needed.
So they all get washed, waxed and well maintained exactly the same.
Car/truck get washed a couple times a year, waxed and fully serviced every fall.
Tractor gets pressure washed a couple times per Year (including the engine), waxed and fully serviced every fall.

I had a VW Transporter, and when I brought it to the dealer for service, they would always pressure wash the engine. I think they had some kind of wax in the water. The engine always looked like new.
I wish I knew what they used, so I could use it on my tractors. Last time in was in Holland I went there to ask, but they had moved.

Think I'd rather have poo or grease on my shoes (carpet, tires, fenders or anything else) than roof tar.

I've been pressure washing the engines in my tractors for decades. Never an issue.

Besides - Diggin it - anybody ever tried to wax a LARGE pickup, like a PW. It's akin to waxing an aircraft carrier. All my vehicles are under cover and out of the suns UV damage.

Maybe if I owned this one ....

Same here, just not on a HOT engine. BUT, if my equipment was full of connectors and sensors for un-needed computer crap, I might think otherwise.

When buying the wax, don't forget to pick up the armorall for the tires!

I haven稚 washed my Kubota M7060 once since I bought it back in 2017. It痴 an outside tractor, I park it under a tree. I don稚 have shelter for it YET!! I hope by summertime I値l have at least a makeshift pole barn for it.

Quite honestly I don't wax any of my vehicles. I have NO plans to wax my brand new Ram Power Wagon. However, I will hose down with a nozzle on the garden hose and scruff with a soft scrub brush. I will keep the mud and dirt off the vehicles - including the engines.

The only "waxing" I will do - I put vinyl protectant ( 303 ) on the tractor seat, motorcycle seats & vinyl in the PW passenger compartment.

I haven't quite figured out, yet, what to put on the leather seats in the PW. But I know leather has to be kept out of the sun - like the tires on my tractor.

Griots Garage leather products.

Try to wax? Every year. 1992 Ford F250. Plus all my other vehicles.

I'm with Vince on this one.
That Bobcat Tractor, that UTV, those Garden Tractors, That JLG, even that Husky Commercial, that Jeep Commander, that Mercedes SUV, that F250 all bought as tools for a purpose. Expensive ones, that I maintain as such. Even that modified 85 Mustang GT, Those 2 89 Cherokees, toys sure, but expensive ones, same maintenance. Well maybe a little more shine to the Mustang during a beer break. :drink:

Wash and wax once a year. Same as me.
Seriously, it makes a definite difference. I had a 28 yr old JD I traded in that I did this to. The dealership I traded it to, put it in a local fair untouched and it sold the first night.

Sounds like you’ve done this before!

Once a year I take a weekend to clean and wax anything bigger than a riding lawnmower. Music is loud, and beer will be drank.
2 cars
I pu
2 tractors
1 UTV
When I finish, I am dog tired, a little buzzed, but good to go for another year.
My 2 buddies down the road don稚 clean their tractors, and call my tractors show ponies
To be fair, I am semi retired and have time to kill, they do not.

I was hoping that some one would know how to add wax to the water for the pressure washer. Clean and wax in the same time, that would be nice.
It is done in the car wash, isn't it?

Alright I’ve lurked long enough.....my sarcasm can’t take it anymore.......
Yah I waxed my tractor till I got a girlfriend!

Or

Yah I wax it. I find that waxing the bucket keeps the dirt from sticking.

Honestly I’ve never thought of waxing it. I haven’t dried more than the seat and wheel after blowing mud off of it. I lube and inspect it regularly but not wax.

I wash it in the spring along with my snowblower in case any salt is on it from moving snow near the road. Waxing my tractor I don't do.. I keep it indoors out of the sun and weather..

I've never waxed a tractor so I may or may not wax this one, but I do like washing it because I think it helps when I have to do routine/scheduled maintenance on it. Just my cents.
