Wash and WAX???????

Does anyone on a regular basis wash and wax their tractor? I wash washing the vehicles yesterday and decided to wash (Jezebel) my L3010 that I reciently purchased. My significant other began to laugh and express the fact that Jezebel is a tractor and made to be dirty. I didn't go over her with a fine tooth comb but I washed her with soap and waxed the hood. I guess I must be babying her. Anyone else do this?

I hose the dust of mine just about every time I cut the lawn. I also just waxed it using one of the wipe-on wipe-off waxes. The wax allows it to clean up with just a hose, and the dirt doesn't stick to it. Lets face it, we spent alot of money to buy these things. If you take care of your investment it will pay you back in resale value.

Jay, I've washed my tractor more than my truck since I've had it. A couple of full soap and water jobs and a couple of hose offs. I haven't waxed it yet, but the thought has occurred. Look at it this way, your tractor cost as much as a small car, right? Might as well take care of it and there's no better way to do a routine inspection than with a wash mitt in hand /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My significant other also laughs at me. Clementine gets regular baths when the hose isn't frozen, and will get a wax job twice a year. Just finished the first wax. Wasn't planning on doing it today, but my foot got pinched between a couple of very large maple logs and I didn't feel up to much in the way of manual labor after that! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

In an aside, I really ought to stop listening to the Wife when it comes to chores. Clementine and I were perfectly content moving those 60" logs with the FEL, when the Wife declared she had never in her life seen such wanton waste of petroleum. Shamed me right into parking the tractor and hooking up the small trailer to the ATV...wrestling those logs onto the trailer by hand. Well, one of them slipped and dropped a couple of feet, catching my foot between it and another log. Gawd, I hate hurting my feet! Better a few gallons of diesel than gimping around for a few days! Now, after three Motrins and a couple of beers, it hurts more than ever. Guess I ought to go see the doc.

Anyway, back to Clementine. She got a coat of wax everywhere...even on the inside of the engine covers! Well, most everywhere. Not on the rims or the bucket. Maybe I ought to go back out there and finish the job...

Funny you should mention that. Up to now, I've just rinsed her off after getting extra dirty. However, I noticed after doing some road repair & mowing that she's pretty dusty, and was saying to myself, I really ought to give her a real bath and a wax job. I thought I'd probably do that this weekend....

I think it's reasonable. Paid as much for her as I did our last car... Only the 'bota will probably last a lot longer.

I still need a name... Boondox fell into Clementine so quick and easy, but it hasn't been easy for me. I figured the name would just pop up sometime. Hasn't yet. My sweetie thinks we ought to name her after an old '71 datsun pickup we used to have. THe Datsun was called "Mudmoe" (short for "Mudmobile". She thought Mudmoe 2 or Mudmoe II. Somehow, that one doesn't want to "stick" /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Sorry to hear about the foot. Even though the price of gas is rising it's better to have too much power than not enough and a sore foot. I to tweaked my foot on a large log last night. Jezebel was parked and instead of walking back and getting her I had the log roll up on my foot/leg. I think one more night of rest and a couple of cocktails Jay and Jezebel will take on some more trees on Wed. I was at the Docs 2 Sundays ago. Massive Poison Ivy.

My brother in-law who drives truck gave me a great suggestion. Put two or three of capfuls of Murphy's Oil Soap in the soapy water when washing it. He puts in more for his truck but says that first there are significantly less bugs on the grill and front bumper after doing this. And second, when he washes it up the next time the clean up is significantly easier. I tried it on my new JD4300 two weeks ago and seems to make the hose downs more effective.

but in my case it's as much as I paid for my last 4 all put together (I buy VERY used cars). Wash her when dirty. Wax three times so far (in 6 months) and cover her with a dropcloth (soft) when not in use. Heated garage in very cold weather. Yes, make it last, and if (lord forbid) you ever have to sell her, first impressions. . . . . .

I really think orange 'shines' nicer than green. . . . .
