It makes a difference. We have wood on several above ground dog kennels and elevated steps.For ground contact treated lumber will last longer. When on a trailer bed I am not sure. I do think if the wood is treated with deck or fence maintenance products every once it a while treated and untreated does last longer. Especially if a person gets energetic enough to to treat both sides of the lumber.
The diesel and oil coating will definitely help preserve the wood,
but boy oh boy does it get slippery when wet.
Just surface rust on the steel. Forget about it and move on.. Maybe you need to get under your pickup truck and look at the frame (if it has one that is)...
