Re: Watch where you\'re mowing!

Most interesting thing or at least the most descructive was an old T-Post that had been flipped upside by the dozer that we had in doing the excavating. Considering the post was probably 50 years old it was still really strong. This was before I had my tractor. I used a pull behind trail mower behind my lawn mower. I ran over it with the trail mower. It was sticking up about 3" - just enough I couldn't see it, the front of the mower went over it, but the blades caught it. Broke/bent 2 blades, broke 1 jackshaft bent another, shattered 1 mandrel, mangled 2 pulleys, broke the idler pulleys and destroyed both belts from the flying material in the deck. About $500 later it was running again - but couldn't keep belts on it. Replaced the rest of the pulleys and the belts again - another $300. Still wasn't right. After replacing the belts 3 or 4 more times at about $60 each I finally gave up and sold the thing for $500 - I figured the motor was worth that much as I had only used it about a year and then a year of fightin' with it. I was hoping to be able to use it behind my NH, but it didn't work out that way. I kinda miss it though, people used to lack at me kinda weird (like they needed another reason /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) when I was mowing pulling this thing that was bigger then the tractor I was pulling it with.

Re: Watch where you\'re mowing!

I have the worst thing to put thru a mower conditioner. One year thru a New Holland 489 mower conditioner I caught a barn cat hidding in some 3 foot high grass was not much left by the time I got shut down and he went thru the conditioning rolls. The next year we had traded up to a 14' vicon disc mower was out mowing first crop on the back side of the farm heavy clover and timothy. I looked behind me to late I might add to see a baby fawn hidding in the grass there was no way to stop quick enough and there was not much left after going thru that disc mower and conditioner rolls. Both incidents made me feel really bad being the animal lover that I am. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

WOW! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I could use tires like that with some of the rough I always seem to end up having to get into to find my ball! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Watch where you\'re mowing!

Running over a rolled-up newspaper while mowing makes a very large mess - a million bits of white paper scattered over a nice green lawn.

The tennis balls the dog plays with in the yard are also hard to spot, but make a nice startling "THWOP" when you hit them.
