Re: Watch where you\'re mowing!

I found a bent stop sign post , brushhog had no problem cutting it in pieces. One piece came out the front, hit the rear tire, put a 4-inch slice in the side wall (only 45 hours on new cut), and no other damage. Another time I hit a bowling ball in the middle of my field that I have been cutting for years /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

MY WALLET /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif when i had the old 2n and still had the metal seat on it my wallet slipped out of my pocket, and on the next pass the RFM found it, just crusing along and then this terrible sound, slammed in the clutch and looked back and could not figure out wht the heck i ran over. got off the machine and then i saw it, wallet sherdded< credit cards shredded, driver liscense shredded, pistol permit shredded, and about a $120 shredded. so i spent the night putting the money back togeteher and took it to the bank next day. what a pain getting all those items replaced. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Watch where you\'re mowing!

Frank, I was much luckier than you. The only time I ever lost a wallet was while cutting hay a few years ago, and with only an hour and a half of searching, and not really expecting to ever see it again, I found it undamaged. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: Watch where you\'re mowing!

Bird, I lost my wallet while mowing (rotary cutter) about 8 years ago. I didn't discover I'd lost it until the next morning when I was getting ready to go to work. I had nothing: no money, no drivers license, no credit cards, no ATM card, no cash, etc.... I took off from work at noon and drove to my Dad's house to borrow $20 and start my search. I never felt so helpless in all my life and I was dreading going through the hassle Frank was talking about.

Well, after 3 hours of searching through the woods looking for a brown wallet amongst brown leaves /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I found the wallet on my pond dam, just sitting there closed up and undisturbed. I whooped and hollered and did a dance that I'm sure looked like a crazy man. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif What a relief. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

...and since this thread is about hitting odd things, the worst things I've ever discovered are three sections of 1-1/2" dia. wire rope (cable) the oil company left on my property when they removed their storage tanks. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Other than 3 shear bolts and a lot of cussin', there was no harm done.

Re: Watch where you\'re mowing!

Let's see, on the first lot I bought (part of an old orchard) I found barbed wire fence laying down, an old truck bed, a few small pieces of old chain and lots of bottles.
I kept the lot bush hogged while waiting to build a house and the main road went in front of my lot. We had let the grass get higher than usual and someone had hit a cat and the force must have knocked it over on my land. Dad was bush hogging and while he was watching the telehphone pole in front of him the tail of the bush hog came around and caught the bloated dead cat. What a nasty smelling mess.

Well.. I've mowed my favorite hat... cutter turned it into dust...

As for hitting things.. I think a car rim was the worst.... Luckily it hit the leading edge, and the blades only glanced on it and then the stump jumper popped over it with really no damage at all..course then I hit some fencing.. etc. and laid on the ground with the wire cutters cussing and trying to stay away from the ant piles while cutting wound up fenc off the stump jumper..

I've done that before-- clipped my hat on a low tree limb and it got chopped to bits before I had a chance to push in the clutch! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Now if I had Henro's Head Guard installed on the tractor, I would probably still have my hat! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Watch where you\'re mowing!

I can remember as a kid mowing my dad's 5 acres everyweek. His property was surrounded by a golf course. Everyweek I hit 4 or 5 balls. My heart would stop everytime. No matter how hard I looked in front of me I never could seem to find them all. I can remember the one time I hit one and it flew out from under the mower. I watched it go about 50 yards through the air towards the fairway of the golf course. I missed a guy by about 15 feet. He didn't look to happy.

Never mow turtles...

I dropped my cel phone... I am sure it had to go under the cutter, but I found it later. It was ringing... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
