It takes a little thinking outside the bag.:D

And a visit to a good San Antonio restaurant - Vegeria

I was there a year a go and spoke at length with the owner telling him a whole generation of heart patients will be looking for a good place like his to eat at and if he would put hearts in front of the no-fat/oil-added dishes it would make ordering easier and the wait staff would not have to answer as many questions.
He listened. Yesterday and today during lunch his restaurant was packed!

Check out the hearts on the menu!!!! (there are more hearts on the other pages also.)

I'm going to google Vegeria so I can try it out. Much on that menu sounds delicious.

Am I the only one that sees the humor in this post?

Hmm, is it funny because the opposite is true?

So remember...If it's NOT hollow...Don't swallow!
Morel Mushrooms | How to indentify Morels | Hunting | Fishing
"A few more things to keep in mind when hunting morels. A true morel will always be hollow inside. A false morel will contain cotton like fibers inside when split open. The half free morel "morchella semilibera"and the "Verpa Bohemica" (The False Morel") are probably the two most common morels that people get confused or mixed up. They both look very much alike. The "Half Free" morel has a long slender stem with a small pitted cap that is notfully attached to the stem and are hollow when cut open. They vary in colors from yellow, tan, brownand black. The Verpa Bohemica" has very much the same description as the "Half Free" except the cap tends to appear more wrinkled then pitted and is barley attached to the stem. It kind of justlike hangs there like a skirt over the stem. Another important feature is that the stem has cotton like fibers when cut open instead of being hollow.

So remember...If it's NOT hollow...Don't swallow!"

I agree that a really big barrier to healthy eating is the lack of exposure to healthy and delicious food. Too much healthy food resembles the proverbial rabbit food. Interesting and flavorful vegetarian dishes are a rarity in US restaurants. Even worse in Europe. The only place I could live happily as a vegetarian is India. But it is nice to see progress here too.

Well, I surmised that there are some things that are best left un-said; I mean who wants to talk about Monica and food in the same thread.

I just use a spoon...

I love salsa...

David

Ok, Salsa lovers, here is a very simple recipe, most tasty when made from garden fresh ingredients. It is so good, you won't believe it until you try it. I've found that when you have guests, particularly in an informal setting like a BBQ, you can't make it fast enough. Take my word for it; to quote Tony the Tiger, it's GRRRRRRRRREEEEAAAAATTTT!

SALSA

1 pint of chopped tomatoes
1/2 pint of chopped yellow onion
1/2 pint of chopped mixed hot/mild red/green/yellow peppers to taste.
Bottle of Original Wishbone salad dressing.
Garlic to taste

Mix peppers, tomatoes and onions; add enough Wishbone salad dressing to cover generously.
Stir slightly; dip with tortilla chips, and stand back. You probably can't make enough. Good luck.
Portions are approximate; mix to your own taste;

Not in Texas, Come On, even before my heart attack there's no way all that oil and calories in a whole bottle of dressing is good, unless you just use the salsa as a condiment. In Texas Salsa IS NOT A CONDIMENT - it's the main dish we work around. (We add cilantro instead of a ton of oil).

Queens NY, First elementary school to go all vegetarian.
""Chancellor Dennis Walcott said. "Our school meals program has evolved under the Bloomberg Administration to offer dishes that meet our nutritional standards.""

Would have never worked for me! I was toothpick thin as a kid, and would have never eaten one of the vegetarian school lunches. Wouldn't eat much they prepared anyway. As much as I LOVE my fresh produce, I will not touch a store bought tomato, even to this day. Makes me want to gag. I am also not a fan of certain other veggies, such as cukes, unless I have pickled them. I am still not much of a sandwich lover, although will eat one, on rare occasions. So, wouldn't have helped to pack a lunch. If the kids won't eat it, it won't do much good health-wise.

I'm all for getting away from the excess processing of the foods fed to the kids, but again, healthy, natural food, in moderation, is what I think is the key. I'm old enough to have grown up with the 4 basic food groups, and still try to follow that pattern, as best I can, as the seasons permit. Unfortunately, the problem today is too much all you can eat and drink, and "super sized" meals.

Not to mention, I'm not much for following Bloomberg's lead.

You're joshin' me, right? Note the part where I say "add enough Wishbone Salad Dressing to cover generously". I'm guessing that amounts to about a half a cup, depending on your definition of "generously"... and Cilantro is good; but we're talking about a caucaphony of flavors, so suit yourself.

My bad, thats what I meant but fat fingers and small screen don't make a good combo. But fried morrels sure do!

Institutional Child Abuse !

Hey, they still have a choice. Instead of a choice between chick'n nuggets and hot dogs it's between broccoli and brussels sprouts.
Like they say you still get all the nutrition but without all that fat and cholesterol. Look at the statistics of overweight and obese children.
Maybe the child abuse is finally stopping.

Farmgirl19, The old 4 basic food groups has changed several times because of research and the state of health in America. Each time it changes meat gets a smaller chunk and 1. Greens, 2. Grains 3. Vegetables and 4. Fruits chunk gets larger.

Moderation=until you are full, not 4 ounces for 99.9% of Americans.

Just saying......

I'm the prime example of the failure of the old 4 basic food groups (Along with over half of America).
