Since I bought this tractor W/FEL last Aug. the hydraulics worked fine. Last week, during the cold snap, I started the tractor and the FEL cylinders made an odd noise, so I shut it off and forgot about clearing more snow.
Well, today it was 45° so I got out my 12G drain pan and removed the drain plug. The oil was not milky, just very cloudy,, so I decided to change the oil.
While the old oil was draining i went to Rural King and bought 10G of new oil. One must exercise care when buying stuff. RK had 5G pails of hyd. oil for $30, so I sat down and began reading the entire label. It stated this oil did not meet any brand specs, but was good for tractor built before 1974. The reading for me was hard, I left my reading glasses home.
So i bought the oil that stated it meets or exceeds almost all brands of tractor specs for $50/5G pail.
When I got home my big drain pan was nearly full and tractor was drained. To make a big drain pan, a 55G plastic drum holds a bit more than 1G per inch, which makes cutting the right height easy. I first made it for changing oil in my Cummins ISC engine in the motorhome.
I put the used oil in 5G pails to sit overnight to see if whatever was mixed with the oil settles out, we'll see in the morning.
When i bought the tractor the dealer said he thought the hyd. oil had just been changed, ya right.
The end thought is, read closely to insure you buy the correct hyd. oil for your tractor.
