I have lots of garden water hose in need of repair. And with our recent cold spell there will probably be more. What product do you find to be best for these repairs. I have tried different types from big box stores, but would like to settle on a type that works without leaking.

inserts with band clamps would work but it will reduce the ID of the hose as does those plastic repair things they sell. i find good used hose on cL sometimes.

I have used these to repair hoses with a cut or split. Big box stores also have repair fittings for the male or female ends.

I like the ones pictured above. If I keep repairing, I'll have more money in splices than I paid for the hose.

Use the type of heat shrink tubing with adhesive inside, works very well in my experience

I agree. I usually fix a hose once or twice. (usually damaged by me driving over an end fitting or crushing the hose on a sharp rock). After that I break down and buy a new hose.

Agreed, I fix too much hose. Have found all fixes leak sooner or later. I like brass fittings...others seem to come apart much sooner. Pricey, however. I fix to save time. A few small water leaks are no big deal.

I've had terrible luck with the plastic type of screw together ends, they tend to pull apart as I drag the hoze. The copper looking ones have been worth the extra cost, for me.

My double wide was plumb with the PBU ( Polubutial) or something like that back in the 80's. Kept breaking ,mostly at the clamps. I would get copper pipe the outside diameter the same as the inside diameter as the PBU. Little Vaseline on the copper pipe then shove it hard and fast as far in the PBU as you can. At first I was using automotive clamps to hold it together but found out the clamps were not really doing anything. The copper pipe would not come out. Latter when it was found PBU to be defected inspectors came out to my house to check it out. They said they never saw this repair on any of the hundreds of houses they checked. They even tried to pull apart a sample I made. They were surprised.
Yes it did reduce the inside diameter of the pipe, but it worked for 10 or 15 years. I kept a piece of pipe on hand for emergency's.
Since then I have repaired a lot of hoses and things with this repair. On hoses I do use clamps.
I hope people don't get the wrong idea of my first paragraph. It was not meant to sound like a sex novel.
Enjoying my 70 degree day before the cold front hits latter to day.

Perhaps that is the problem: too cheap of hose? Better hose might not need all the repairs.
