Water in diesel

You in FLA yet.......:)

No!
I am going to turn 80 next Monday.
Too old to do the 1,600 mile drive (I hate long drives), and too chicken to hitch a ride with Covid in an aluminum tube for 3+ hours.
I am hanging tight here on the Cape, hoping that the vaccine will come soon.
The local Hyannis VA clinic told me that they now expect to get it before the end of Dec.
Just messin around fixin little chit, and hopin for better times ahead.

You don't want to buy a vacum pump you can make 1 of dese Wangensteins out of a couple oil jugs and pull water off bottom of tank real easy. Just cross out patient and write tank.

Get tube all de way to bottom and let her rip.
Don't loose more den an ounce of fuel once you get figured out.

How common is it to get water in your diesel while in the tractor? It's that time of year for condensation. Hot cold hot cold. I'm losing a lot of power at the end of a tank, and blowing a lot of smoke trying to start up. Do I have more to worry about?

Ran diesel cars for 39 years. Never ever had water in diesel.

Have run diesel tractors now for 16 years. Never ever have I had water in diesel.

I believe it involves storing the tractors outside and they collect water...

you probably got the water when you filled up your cans. their tank was probably close to empty.

This would make no difference as water is heavier then diesel and will settle tothe low point of the tank,
and those tanks draw from almost at the bottom. also most of them have filters at the pump.

This thread has been an interesting read;
The color paste that was refered to is good for checking your bulk storage and even the bottom of your tractor tank if you can reach it.

I've been running diesels for a considerable time and have only had a few water related issues.
I suspect most of them were cumulative effects of condensation and tanks getting filled in rain and snow storms,
with some being brought in with the fuel delivery's.
One thing I try to do is pull 10-15 gallons out of the very bottom of my storage tanks before it gets to freezing out,
I leave that in a barrel and may or may not use the top half for the tractors or furnaces.
The bottom except for the ice for salamander heaters or starting fires, then dumping out anything that was froze, usually just a gallon or less.

When I brought home Deere Dozer I cleared a mud dauber obstruction and opened the tank drain and about half a cup of water ran out.
