Water in fuel causes $10,000 damage to my Kubota Grand L6060

Wow, after reading this I’m thankful that I’ve always used 5 gallon cans to get my fuel from a service station. I bought my current tractor new in 2005, and have only drained the fuel filter (original) one time.

I always add a performance additive to my summer fuel and Powerserve to my winter fuel (approx one cap full per gallon). No fuel issues whatsoever in 19 years of running it:

I ordered 2 of these tampons to put in my tank. They are smaller than I expected. The second pic is of one that has been in the tank for about 6 hours. Looks to be a couple of dark spots that may be water. The tank has not moved for at least a week.

Try the best you can to keep your tank full. It’s not easy for me at the price of fuel today, but that’s the best defense against water in fuel. Insides of tank cannot sweat when they are full.

I put this in my tank on Feb 22 and removed it today on June 3. I put a new one in today. It looks really dirty after about 100 days.

Appears to be collecting rust too.

When I upgraded my storage tank and filtering system, I switched to an aluminum 108 gallon tank. My last year's fuel contamination issue involved dirt, rust, and fine gravel in the bottom of the steel tank. I have also switched fuel suppliers, because there was NO WAY the dirt and gravel came from anywhere but the supplier. The steel tank was pretty rusty on the inside.

FYI, the "supplier" was a name brand, busy station with a fair amount of truck traffic.

All I've ever read about algae is, it requires moisture to grow, no moisture, no algae!
Moisture can and will accumulate in a partially full fuel tank, it's a result of temperature changes, much like a cold can of pop gets condensation on the outside (it's doing the same thing on the inside as well and so is your fuel tank and / or bulk tank with non treated fuel and why I always use a certified biocide (Power Service Bio-Kleen), always. I don't take much, maybe a capfull in a fuel tank to provide protection. I pre treat my bulk tank always and for extra insurance I add it to my fuel tanks as well. Not cheap but the amount used makes the initial cost quite reasonable.

I'm the once bitten, twice shy person and what it cost me to remediate my diesel pickup truck more than convinced me.

I have a 73-gallon fuel tank "I built"(I welded it up out of a sheet of 1/8" diamond plate) back in the 80's. I've always used it for diesel and it spent most of its life in the back of a pickup, that is until about 15 years ago when I took it out and set it on a couple 4x4's OUTSIDE against my barn.

When I took it out, I had intensions to keep on using it, but it never happened, and it sat right there outside with about 6 gallons of diesel in it. It sat there for AT LEAST the last 15 years, and the other day I FINALLY decided to clean it out and start using it again.

Well, a few days ago I pumped out the diesel and put some of it from the bottom, in a pail,

One the left you can see some dirt that was already in the pail, on the right you can see the reflection and that's it! NO WATER at all, none!

I don't use any additives in my diesel NONE, and that fuel is going right in my tractor (except for the dirt) and I don't see any problem at all doing so.

I've never had fuel problems, not even one time!
