I'm going to try to get some ground cover established along the bare slopes on my property. I'm trying to figure out how to water the plants until they get established. The areas are too far from the house to run a hose.

Would one of the sprayer set ups do a good job watering? I assume they are designed to deliver a fine mist, not the volume of water I want to put down.

I have a Polaris Ranger and my B2410, I can use either for this job, but the Ranger is better on the hills, so I'd prefer to use that.

What do you suggest?

I had the same problem, and here's what I did - I was at the local TSC with my wife, who was buying chicken feed. I noticed they had sprayers on sale; further more upon closer inspection, all the sprayer tanks had a drain hole in a sump on one end that looked like the exact same size as a garden hose. Then, I found a 25-gallon sprayer that was on close-out because it was missing the pig tails for the electric pump. I bought it for cheap, took it home, and put it in a utility trailer that pulls behind my garden tractor. I cut a 10-15' length off of an old garden hose and screwed it on the drain hole of the sprayer tank, filled the tank with water, and held the working end of the hose higher than the tank while I drove the tractor to each tree. When I stop near a tree, all I have to do is lower the end of the hose to the ground and out comes the water.

I recently planted about 15 1-gallon trees, and the 25-gallon sprayer tank works about right for one go-around of all the trees. If you have more or bigger trees, you would probably want a bigger tank. This solution worked well for me, but then again I'm a cheapskate of the first order.

Are you talking about a wand setup or a boom setup? At any rate, if you remove the nozzle(s) then the water will come out in a healthy stream. I unscrew the nozzle on my wand and use the pump to drain the tank into a sealable bucket for winter storage. It takes no time at all and I'm sure my setup would do a good job of watering, but I would want more than a 25g tank unless I ran the pump's inlet hose into the FEL filled with water.

Here's what we do for remote watering;

We purchased several plastic drums (55 gal.) they are cheap around here ($7-10/ea.) Using a utility cart and a 12 VDC pump and wand we hook up AUX. PWR. off the tractor and water away.

We have also utilized a large plastic tank and 120VAC pump and hose hooked up to a 5K port. Gen.

I hooked up 150' of drip irrigation line to my 15 gallon sprayer. Using pressure compensating drippers, it works great for watering my trees -

I would actually love a boom set up. The area is on either side of a dirt road. I would love to be able to spray 30' or so on either side (one side down, the other back?) of the road.

If I remember correctly, water is 6.8 lbs/gallon. I could handle a skid type sprayer set up in the back of the polaris with a 55 or 100 gallon tank. It sound like I could either remove the nozzels or maybe drill out the holes to make them bigger?

Its starting to sound like I need to make a trip to TSC or check out northern tool. Any other suggestions?

When I set up my boom pole outfit I got everything I needed at the local co-op. Not sure if you have one, but they had various sized nozzles for different appplications, tanks, pumps, hoses... everything but the length of gaspipe to attach everything to and they were cheaper than TSC.

The plastic drums work well, specially if you have them above the are being watered. I have used this method laying them down in the bed of my truck and have a hose spigot on the bottom of the drum and just a simple vent out of the 2" bung on top. I used this setup to also get salt water from scripps pier for my reef tanks. Another version I used before I got the drums where those heavy gauge rubbermaid trash cans. I did not fill them up to the top and I just used a siphon to get the water out of those.
