That is actually a good thing to do. Even though you'll get it dirty again right away, the wax will help protect the paint from sun and will also make it easier to wash the next time around. I don't wax mine as often as I should (been a year or so), but if you want to protect the finish it is a good way to keep the paint up.
Also helps when (not if /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif) you scrape the paint. Touchup paint is the best route, but just waxing a scrape will help prevent moisture from getting in and starting the evil rust process.
