Really looks good with that pretty white covering, but I wouldn't want to do that often.
CAG, glad to hear you're getting some income from your tractor. Sure makes it nice when the payments come due!

Yikes, 5 more inches this morning. Regular winter wonder land. The GM truck I have has 4wd and the GM locking rear end. Quite a beast in the snow.

It's melting as it coming down in my area, I agree with you Joe, the GM is a good truck to handle the snowy conditions...cag

Some folks report having a locking diff on the rear of a 4X4 tends to pull the rig towards ditches on crowned roads in ice and snow---what do you think??

I do get the rear end side slippage in 2wd if I am not careful on a pretty steeply cross sloped road and real slick ice/packed snow. The 4wd allows better traction and the truck will usually get moving before the side slip.

A handy thing about the GM gov-lok locker is that it engages when the differential speed between the rear wheels is 200 rpm or more and the vehicle speed is below 20 mph. So what this means is that I can somewhat control the rear end lockup to prevent the side slip.

Once moving a careful application of throttle prevents slippage of any tires and we move along. I also carry chains and if the 3 wheels spin and I only slide sideways then the chains go on the front.

To answer your question, as long as I'm not hot-dogging I have very good control in all but the worst conditions where chains are needed.

Joe, Mark the one thing that I've notice to give me that more traction with my Silverado were the set of Micheline XLT... I have the fisher plow on the truck and the traction is incredible with does baby on, I know I'm a bit off topic here but what the heck...cag

chains only on the front can/will cause the rear to swap ends.
