Wearing a sleep apnea mask?

   / Wearing a sleep apnea mask? #151
I understand. That's why I'm looking forward to the sleep study. I got a call today and someone canceled so my consultation has been moved from November 17 to this Monday (Oct. 6).

I just finished filling out the questionaire for the consultation, and my answer to most of the questions was 'never'. I sleep well at night, and the only time I wake up is when I have to go pee, which is usually 2-3 times a night. I wake up feeling refreshed, and I don't fall asleep while driving or during the day.

If you have to get wake up 2-3 times a night to go pee it may be a good idea to see the Doc and have your prostate checked as well.

Cheers

Don

However, I'm going into this open minded and ready to see the results of the study. If a CPAP will help me to stop snoring, and allow my wife to sleep better, it will be worth it to me.

My wife went to the sleep clinic at a hospital and they prescribed a mask. But it freaked her out.

At the suggestion of a friend she made four visits to an acupuncturist. Problem solved. YMMV.

I have noted several signs of self-serving evil in the medical profession. "Sleep Apnea" is probably the biggest one. Almost without exception, anyone I know who was overweight and snored was "positively" diagnosed, after a "sleep-study", and prescribed the sleep-mask and air pump. Rather than accepting that verdict (I never even took the test), I lost a little weight, and started using a "netti-pot" regularly to clear my nasal passages. Cha-Ching, problem solved, no mask, no pump, no sleep Doctors. Snoring gone, Sinus headaches gone, and I keep the loot, to spend as I please.

#2 - Eye doctors / glasses sales shops. Usually they correct to the point such that you dont have to strain at all to see clearly. No strain - no gain, and your eyes just relax and see clearly. Just like what happens to the rest of your body if you lay on a sofa, in front of a TV all day every day, the eyes get weaker. A stronger (more expensive / thicker or high-index perscription is "required" on your next exam. Guess who keeps the loot.
- a simple fix here is to simply order yourself a cheap pair of foreign-made glasses over the internet every 6 months or so, each time DROPPING your prescription by a quarter point or so. Expect to pay $10 - $20 a pair in today's market. I am 50 years old now, working my way back towards 20/20, and hope to be there before I am 60. God gave the human body an amazing ability to "heal itself", but many in the medical profession seek to "keep this cat in the bag". Why kill the "golden goose"?

#3 "high cholesterol medication" All that stuff has at least some negative side-effects. Try garlic. It is available over the counter, and it works. After just 6 months of recommended dosage, it got me off the prescription pills.

#4 Cancer: Look into it, lots of people have recovered, largely thru diet changes, after the Doctors told them there was no hope and nothing more could be done thru operations, chemo, or radiation. A lot of the State and Federal funding for research would go away if it were admitted that a cure existed.

Are all those in the medical proffesion partly full of evil? Yes, just like the rest of us. What is the root of all evil? You decide what happens to yours. You can give it to some "bloodsuckers". Or you can use it to do someone else some good. What would the one individual who walked this earth, having no evil in him, have done with his extra money?

p.s.: getting up to pee at night: As one ages, it is natural for the prostrate to enlarge causing the need for more frequent nocturnal urination. A simple "natural" fix here is to up the potassium level in your body. A banana or two a day is a cheap, easy way to accomplish that task. It got me down from 3-4 times a night to 0 - 1 after just a month on 2 bananas (one with breakfast, one before bed).

I forgot to mention that in my recent enlightened self-interest-motivated research into Sleep Apnea, C-Pap, and the risks, benefits, pitfalls, and oddities, it became clear that there is a threshold, in that you have to use the C-Pap for a minimum of 4 hours per night.to obtain the positive effects on BP, Blood Sugar, and other risk factors.

wolc123, I would not go so far as to say that all members of any profession or way of life are partly full of evil, but given any large group of people there are certain to be some who are.

As previously posted, I have used a CPAP machine for now over 20 years. It stopped me snoring (people in hotel rooms further along the corridor have been known to complain about me) and, thanks to the British NHS, none of the equipment cost me anything. I had to buy my own when I moved to Portugal, but at about £600 it was money well spent.

#1: As you stated, you've never taken the test! Not all people with sleep apnea are over weight, granted, I am & have been all my life. I've used a CPAP for several years & will continue to do so!

#2: I've worn glasses since my teens due to astigmatism & later slightly declining vision. I will continue to to see my Ophthalmologist yearly!

#3: Bought have to agree with you on that one, at least in my case! But each individual is different.

#4: My wife & I have both been through cancer treatments, I have my prostate remover 12 years ago because of it. Again, I'll continue to see my Oncologist yearly!

Yes, there are greedy people in the medical profession, just as in any other profession, one just has to do their own research to weed out the bad ones, and do what works for you! ~~ Lowell

Went for my consultation today. Earliest date to schedule a sleep study was Dec. 1st. I asked to be considered if anyone cancelled earlier.

Got a call later today and someone cancelled for tomorrow night. I'll post how it goes.

I survived the sleep study. I did not sleep well with all the wires hooked up to me. I had to go pee once during the night, and the technician had to come undo the wires so I could go.

If my apnea would have been severe, she would have come put a CPAP mask on me halfway through the night. Mine was not, so she said I will probably have to go for another full night to sleep with a mask.

I'll probably hear from the doctor to see whats next, in about a week.
