Weatherproof garage doors?

I have clopay insulated garage doors on my garage and barn. Haven't insulated the barn yet, but went ahead and put in insulated doors when I built. I like them.
That's funny buckeye! Looks like we are in the same boat! I also have clopay insulated doors and I am currently working on insulating the rest of my building. I have had the same door on our house garage since 2002 with no complaints.

Ours are Clopay too, R17 without windows for the best possible insulation value. VERY well made door. I am impressed. The one problem that I have never seen a good solution for is sealing the sides and top. The basic seals that are out there stop most rain and wind to a degree, but they have zero insulation value - just a rubber strip. I would like a better solution to really seal the inside, especially on the sides. I've thought about ways to do it, but they get complex fast, or likely won't work well.

I put the insulated sectional garage doors on my shop and they work well. No light is visible coming in around the door seals and the polystyrene insulation really does well to keep heat and cold where it should be. It would be really easy to add another 1" or more section of foam insulation to the door for those really cold climates, just some spray on glue and styro-foam board and you could increase R value significantly.
Mine keeps things well insulated and on the coldest days in Arkansas, a 1500 Watt heater will keep it tolerable inside for work. I bought a small window AC unit and it keeps things cool when I used it but after the first year, I found that a floor fan is suitable to keep me cool when I work and lots cheaper to run just when I am working there. Fully insulated walls and ceiling is the key to keeping things comfortable.

Missed that page when I was looking. I can see bubble wrap working in Texas to keep heat out, that would be what, 40 deg F temp differential? We are often 100-110 deg F difference from outside winter temp to room temp. Bubble wrap ain't going to cut that. Not blocking lights is a positive I hadn't thought of for them.

Right-- roll up type system would be ideal for space considerations but the space advantage would be outweighed by lack of insulation. Great for milder climates but with a strong wind and below zero temps-- which we do get around here in the winter-- they probably would not be a good option.

Another Clopay r17 owner here. Our garage/shop/man cave is 60 x 40 with 12' walls. Two 10 x 12 overhead doors, three insulated steel man doors, 6 Anderson vinyl windows. Personally, I think the Clopay doors are great. As others mentioned, our big doors face south which helps. The big doors are also nice in the summer. Open them up and turn on the ceiling fans and it's very comfortable.

I just skimmed the thread, but didn't take note of your heat source. That is probably much more critical than the doors. We have in-floor heat with a reznor heater to supplement. The in floor heat is great, and the gas furnace helps with quick temp recovery after the the doors have been opened.

I'm in PA, so our climate is similar. You're probably a couple degrees colder.
