Weed control under fences

Hoo, boy, I can sure identify with that. I just took a week to install a laminate floor in a 12' x 12' room when it should have taken about a day. But, I'm real glad I had that week to do it, because 4 months ago, I was surprised every morning when I woke up. We do what we can do and keep pluggin'...

Thanks for the welcome Jerry.

Yes, I am also suprised how easy, with a bit of investigation, such an effective herbicide is available, even here in Australia. We're not as backward as you might think! It's suprising how easy, with a little bit of effort, it is to get your hands on some 'good gear' when it comes to looking after problems on the land. "Pidgeon's Pest Controller 500" is another prime example of a hard hitting product. Officially referred to as a termiticide, it kills any insect in site for months. I had a meat-ant nest about 1 meter by 3 meters with about a dozen ant holes in it. 20 litres of stale 2 stroke, a match and nearly 30 minutes of flame and the nest was unaffected. Then I got onto the Pidgeons....A good squirt with some Pidgeon's mixed with water and that nest was vacant in one day. Forget the Mortein Ant Sand at Woolworths, this stuff is the real deal. Not sure if it's available stateside but if you have an ant problem, and you can get it, then this will do the job with no worries.

Good to talk with you Larry,

Brett.

( So I've been on my new horse farm for about 6 months, and learned a big lesson for the first summer - a lot of fences means a lot of weed wacking. What a pain!

So I got this idea... if I put something along the ground under the fence as a barrier to weed growth, then I can mow alongside and I won't need to weed wack. I am thinking of laying boards flat between the posts, but afraid of things like warping and freeze-thaw troubles.

This would be used to control weeds under electric tape fences for the horses, and/or wire mesh fences for the dog. In both cases, I have 4x4 wood posts on about 8ft centers.

Anybody have a great idea for this... or seen one somewhere? )

Has anyone ever tried to make something like this out of a weed trimmer or a rotary push mower?
