Try TRIOX from Ortho, it kills grass/weeds and poisons the ground where sprayed for a couple years.

I use growth regulators aka growth inhibitors. You can buy them at lesco. They have a website to find a dealer near you. I use them in my horse trun out fence areas'. they are nice because u still keep the green look. They dont kill the grass & weeds, just stop the growth. They are also better for your soil.

Weed control under a fence is hard at best. I found that herbicide is not the answer either. After using Round Up for several years we started developing ditches right under the fence where we had killed the grass and weeds. In a couple of places the posts almost washed out after a couple of hard rains. We are back to trying to control the growth with mechanical means (weed wacker or fence line mower).

Roundup is rubbish. The only thing it's good for is killing existing vegitation and then 3 weeks later you have fresh weeds or grass growing up under your fence. I have 1000 meters of fence line around my block of land. I have a 7 wire, ironbark splitpost fence, with one plain electric 2" off the ground, then 2 barbs, then another plain electric about 15" off the ground, then 3 barbs to the top. It allows my 4 dogs to have free roam of 10 acres during the day while we are at work and they don't go anywhere near the fence as it bites hard! I used Roundup for a while but it's a waste of time. Get yourself some Krovar DF. It looks like washing machine powder. 5kg will cost you about AU$250. One application around my fence, which used about 1/3 of the 5kg resulted in nearly 2 years of weed and grass free 1.5 metre strip under my fence. I have only just gone over the fence line again in the last couple of weeks just to give it a freshen up. It didn't need it by any means, I just wanted to give it another hit to be sure as we are having some good rain at the moment. It sounds like expensive stuff but it beats the **** out of Roundup any day of the week.

That sounds like good stuff. I have never heard of Krovar DF. I would bet that if it works that good it is a restricted substance in the U.S.A. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I'm not a big fan of Roundup. There are other herbicides out there with the exact same chemical and product strength as Roundup for 30% - 40% less cost. For me, Roundup works but has always been relatively slow acting. In fact I have seen grass and weeds outgrow Roundup's ability to kill when growing conditions have been good. I'm not familiar with Krovar DF but it sounds as if it has a long residual effect and retention time in the soil, which Roundup doesn't, so you're not exactly comparing apples to apples. I'll have to research information on Krovar DF but this shows how important it is to pick the right herbicide for what you want to achieve. It's definitely not a case of "one size fits all".

My lawn is 3 acres, the older I got the longer it took to weed eat it. That, plus dogs digging in and out. I had the answer. When I replaced the fence, I used sch 80 pipe for posts, sitting in the middle of a 18" strip of rebar enforced concrete. I welded a 7/8 sucker rod 3" from the bottom and a sch 80 pipe for the top rail and put up chain link fence. It took me 6 mos, since due to poor health I can only work 2 hours at a time. But NO MORE WEEDING in my life time. I'll post a picture when the rain ever stops> At the cost of "Remedy" $102.00 gl or RU at $97.00 it won't take long to reach pay back. And it looks great.
