In the little calculator for sizing my WD hitch they have a place for
Weight of cargo loaded behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle
.

Elsewhere I've seen warnings about not having more than 200lbs behind the rear axle.

Is this supposed to include the hitch? The darn hitch, shank and ball weigh about 70lbs.

My guess is not. I would think they are referring to cargo.

Additional weight behind the axle will be 'carried' by the WD hitch. Keeping weight out of that area will make your math simpler. Remember, the 'extra' weight is going to be placed on the truck front axle & the trailer rear axle.

Be safe,

Mike
