I've been wondering the same thing. With a dump trailer the loads tend to vary greatly between being loaded and empty. Torsion bars on when loaded, off when empty?

Or just loosen the chains a few links when empty.

I've used my trailer a little since that last post with and without a WD hitch. I'm finding that when hauling my little tractor it's not even worth the hassle of the torsion bars. When I load the trailer to capacity with hay however, it makes a big difference. I'm glad I considered WD hitch brackets when I modified my tongue. It's a very convenient option to have.

Yes you will have to unload the torsion bars before tilting a tilt bed trailer. I forgot and made that mistake one time. The back of my trailer A frame goes up when the bed is tilting and puts a lot of extra force on the bars. If the frame stayed level and only the bed went up it wouldn't be a problem. My tilt bed is only a 7K trailer so I don't use a WD hitch on it any more.

I also use the WD hitch towing a 30' camper. For my camper I use 1000 lb. bars with the WD hitch. I also have a 2nd WD hitch with 1200 lb. bars but rarely use it. I know if I sold that hitch I'd need it a week later.
