Aren't you the guy with more tractors than acres?

It's tougher for us guys that have more acres than tractors, by a factor of 100-1!

It must be nice to be the other way around on that ratio!

Are you thinking of Kubota man LBrown??

I think he has 400 tractors or something... :)

I found it easier to just ballast my tractor for the correct weight for it's application.. then use another tractor differently ballasted for different applications.. ;)

I expect LBrown will be by shortly to concur with that approach. Can't believe his masterplan doesn't take that into account :)

How does foam filling tires rate in this whole mess??? As its heavier than water and its does not act as like water ie. create rolling resitantance as the weight is fixed in the tire not?
As we have a M5400 with foam in front & fluid in rear as foam cost was a little to high, but I figure on a B26 we are getting we would put foam in all the tires to keep from getting flats & it would not hurt to get have the extra weight as it will be digging all the time.

I think I'm still under the magic '1' ratio for tractors per ac... at least for now... mind you I'm always looking for my next victom!

Given the quite low prices I buy my tractors at.. I'm sure the $price$ you guys pay for those shiny new 4x4 CUT's with hydro trans, loaders and all the bell's and whistles would buy QUITE A FEW tractors like I have bought.

Remember.. I sniff out deals on old 50 hp tractors with loaders that need some sweat and hand work.. yet I get them for 1500$.. how many old cheap tractors can I get for the price of a 30's-40's hp shiny hst equipped tractor with 4x4 and a loader?.. So what's one of those things cost nowadays.... 25g's? for a big one? 18 g's for a small one? I'm not sure my math is right here.. but um.... 1.5k goes into 18k about 12 times.... hm.. that number looks strangely close to how many I have... ;)

Sounds like a lil buyers remorse talking to me....

Yep, must be nice!

At least you keep us "in the loop" as you spruce them up.

I think soundguy has the right idea but only if you can get by without 4wd. There just aint any good, old, < 50 hp 4wd's out there. If you live in a low, swampy area like myself and do a significant ammount of tillage and loader work, 2wd just does not get it done and the money you save on the tractor is wasted in time and fuel. I do have (3) old 2wds that I use when conditions allow but I would never again be without a modern 4wd.

Foam does not have the rolling resistance, add's alot of rear weight, and is great for flat proofing. It does hurt the ride some, as the tire can't flex as much, and you'll loose some traction because of this. Its a great choice for a machine like a B26, skid loaders, etc. Not somthing you'd usually see on a big tire.

I'll post from a big cut used for farming point of view.

-Fluid hurts traction and ride quality.
-Hauling around the extra weight uses fuel.
-Weight boxes are great, except they have to come off when pulling hay wagons, which in this size tractor needs weight.
-No loader on the front means you need to lower your tire pressure to match.
-The loader needs fluid and more in the L5030HSTC Kubota. Its a heavy cut to start with but the axle is far back to make a short turning radius. The same hp and weight M series is much more stable.
-Balasting is far more important when doing a task all day like plowing that running around doing some loader work.
-Fluid fill makes tires a rotten sob to repair or set wider etc.
