Welding Cast to Mild Steel

Welding up a small cast iron casting may be psooible if you can heat it evenly, and use a nickel rod.. but it's not for the unskille dwelder.. and I'd not want to do it on a steering application. unless I had to.

If it was cast steel.. you'd be ok..

What about the bracket idea?

Your bracket looks like it will at least hold the rack in place. Looks like a lot of modification to that rack. Good luck with it. At least it won’t be on the road. Us offroaders do a lot of weird modifcations.
