I need to do some welding on my Artic Cat 375 hitch. My concern is what do I need to do before welding Or is it of any concern? to protect the alternator?

Disconnect the ATV battery and keep your welding ground close to the hitch you are welding.

I have also either removed or thrown a wet blanket/towel over anything that can catch fire or melt from welding sparks. Like plastic seats or fuel tanks - especially fuel tanks.

Good plan.. Also I always do a double ground when ever electronics are concerned. Use the welder ground close to the joint and I run another to earth or another source. You wont have any probs.

Can't go wrong by disconnecting the cdi, battery, keeping ground clamp as close to the weld as possible and a FULL gas tank.

An extinguisher-ABC type nearby and a quick means of egress; keep your path to the exit clear.
