Welding on deeply pitted rusty metal

What is the downside of it? There are plenty of other rods available for other things but why not just use 6011?

Down side>60,000 tensile strength-ish, what (I'd) do if needed more weld strength is after welded with 6011, needle gun weld, (wire brush will work-ish) then go to 7014 for AC only welder, but if one has a DC welder, get/use DC 7018, Not the crap AC 7018, you heard me CRAP.

I almost exclusively weld with 7018 AC. I don't buy just any old rod. I use Lincoln because they are quite q bit easier to weld with than some of the other brands I've tried. Someone with more experience can maybe say why they are easier and just maybe there are other company's that make rods that weld better than Lincoln A/C's.

And yes they are stickier to start and weld with than say a 7014 or a 6013 or even a 6011 but if I need to weld something with a 7018 at least I'm used to them.
