Before you do all this, what is the gpm rating of that pump. Remember, your well is refreshed at 6 gpm and you don't want to pump above that or you run the risk of emptying the well...just sayin'

He said his pump is a 6 GPM 3/4 HP, Who did you get pump from? Did you get it from Well guy?

I thought the idea is that a lower volume pump would not out-strip the inflow/recharge to the well. No, it's not more water, it should be more consistent water at the user end of things.

 Agree fully. Not more water but properly sized pump won't pump the well "dry" within a few min. Not as hard on the pump IMO.
A smaller pump might be a little healthier for the well, but it really comes down to the fact that neither pump pumps more than you use. ... One will just run longer to do it The sudden problems going to a larger pump are either due to increased water use or raising the pump in the well or both. These are OP controllable issues. They have virtually nothing to do with the pump.

You need to try to spread out your demand on the well.

Lowering the pump will give a little more stored water reserve and help your situation (unless you start sucking sediment).

I think that you need to add another pressure tank to your system for more storage capacity- You can add the tank anywhere in the line- even under your house- just be sure to match the bladder precharge pressures. You could also install a low flow shower head and turn down the fill valve on the washing machine to reduce the flow so it takes longer to fill.

Alright guys I am hoping that this is my last post!!!! Concerning this anyway.... :) Extended the line 10' and replaced the 1HP with the 3/4hp 6gpm. I hit water at about 40 feet from the bottom of the well which is really wierd since the tag on the case says 30 feet and the well guy said I had definately lost some water since it was drilled 8 years ago.
The pump cuts on at 30 and off at 50. There is 28psi in the tank. I filled the horse traugh up with no loss of water or pressure. I have a load of dishes washing right now and 1 kid in the shower!!!

Thank you all for the last couple of days. I have been on a lot of different forums related to hotrods, diy, motorcycles etc.... I have NEVER had a 14 page thread. I really appreciate all of you all's input. I learned a lot, some things the hard way. Hopefully this is done so I can move on to an enjoyable project..

Thanks again!
Wade

Well that happiness did not last long. Filled the horse traugh last night then came in and washed dishes in dishwasher. Yep shortly after, no water. pressure guge was at 40psi and the pump was on but pressure never climbed and eventualy dropped completely. I shut off the breaker and obssesd about it all night until I finally decided I had to get up and check it. Sure enough I have 50psi and water in the house.

We did check the depth of the water again and it was roughly 30' The well is 305' so we hit water around 275'. I can't do this anymore! Calling another well guy who was recommended today. If he appears to know what he is talking about and I feel comfortable with him I am just going to tell him to drill and be done with it. I don't think that there is anything else I can do. I did turn the valve to the house from the tank down to slow the flow of water from tank to the house. I do not see a significant drop in house water pressure. I guess we will just limp to the finish line with what we have and hope the next well is not as deep.

I'm guessing that this well will build back up eventually but I cannot count on that. But if it does I know it has a new pump so I will just use it to water horses and dogs.

Again, I do appreciate all of your help. I think I am at the end of what I can do myself.

well Wade i hope the well guy can give you some good news. best of luck. my only thought would be put a larger preasure tank in to allow the well more time to recover.

Wade, what's the reason the well can't be drilled deeper.
