Howdy Folks,

I took a few pictures today. Here is the broken nose piece, the damaged right front and the hood alignment.<img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=271055"/><img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=271056"/><img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=271057"/><img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=271058"/>

I'm having a hard identifying the hood nose. It looks to be cast metal instead of stamped steel. It may not be a 135 nose. I've looked thru numerous 1970 MF135's on the net and none looks like the one you have. That right side is pretty messed up. Unless your really good with sheet metal, I'd junk all the front end metal.i can tell you up front that replacement parts is a b@tch to get to fit and look right. The replacement parts must have been modeled after a new tractor than my 65.

If you need part numbers to search the net goto www.agcopartsbook.com and use the GUEST loggin and with 135 as model and type Massey Ferguson then when the search list comes up pick 135 tractor. If you have microsoft Silverlight linked to your Internet explorer you will be able to see the graphics and parts list with descriptions. All printable. Then let your fingers do the waking over the net and search out parts you need at the best prices. -Robert

Howdy BigBoy,

Yes its loud right now. A neighbor gave me an upturn pipe for it but the flange is not positioned right. I did get that stub flange off. The exhaust manifold has a stud broken off in the block, I hope I can get that out but it will be tough. I really don't get much time to work on her. I will just have to do a little at a time. Thank you for the greasing tips.

Mike if some of that stud is still visible all is not lost. They make a tool called an easyout that once you drill a center hole in the broken stud it's made to screw into the drilled hole and twist as if your unscrewing the bolt. I'd heat it up really good with a torch (red hot) and take the tool and it should twist easy enough. I'd remove the gas tank first before I did that though. I've done the above on head bolts many a time. If it's broken off inside the threads in the head then more heat will be needed because of more metal mass. Good luck. -robert

Well, we got her home. My boy Matthew loves it. I thought it may have been rolled but after further study, me and my neighbors believe they dropped a tree across the back the fenders. It needs a few things but runs. Here are some pictures. I only hope I can do half as good a job at fixing her up as the folks on this forum have done to theirs.
Have a good evening.

Mike,
Congratulations on the tractor! That is a very nice tractor, and you made a good decision. I know the feeling about working around it with your son. I have a 3 year old daughter who loves to try to climb all over my tractor, and is always asking for rides. Mine is a late 70's model as well, and will start from the ground without having the clutch pushed in, so I always leave the key out of it, unless I am near it. You will have lots of great memories working on your new tractor, and just remember, the tractor has been around for 42 years, so you can take your time restoring it, it is yours, and it feels great to get each piece restored over time. It also gives you something to look forward to. You will soon find that it becomes a bit of an obsession, and you will find yourself thinking about what you are going to do next, at all hours of the day. Enjoy, and congratulations!

Howdy Robert,

I can tell you that it is some kind of cast. Its not heavy enough to be steel or iron and I have not tried to put a magnet to it yet. I just call it pot metal but maybe it is cast aluminum. I'm trying to get a spot cleared out in the barn for it or I will have parts strung out all over the country.

Someone (maybe Massey WV) mentioned that website previously and I have looked around on it. Its really nice they have that on the web.

Howdy Mitch,

I have to agree with you. I know it needs work and has been abused but I will slowly nurse her back into shape. I already think about fixing it all the time. I trust you have fixed up a few in your time.

Now that's scary that you can start it with out pushing in the clutch. Has the neutral safety switch been bypassed? This is my first big tractor even though it's not that big. I'm a little scared every time I get on her. I know she could hurt me if I'm not careful.

Have a good evening.

Well, thank you for saying so. I see them on the internet and they show up around here from time to time. Where are you located? I hope you find one.

Mine will not start unless range selector is in S. This ebables you to safely start the tractor without getting on. I'd bet yours is the same.
