Now that's scary that you can start it with out pushing in the clutch. Has the neutral safety switch been bypassed? This is my first big tractor even though it's not that big. I'm a little scared every time I get on her. I know she could hurt me if I'm not careful.

Mine will not start unless range selector is in S. This ebables you to safely start the tractor without getting on. I'd bet yours is the same.

Mine is the same, safety switch is in the range selector lever, not the clutch.

My 135 nose cone was in rough shape, as was the front end, when I got it. Everything lined up well enough to use it though so I straightened everything out best I could and did the mechanical repairs it needed first. I did eventually decide to fix the sheet metal and paint it, took a little patience and some left over paint but was well worth the time spent.

Enjoy your project, nothing like working with your hands to give you a feeling of accomplishment.

Well, looks like I'm just use to little lawn and garden tractors. I knew I had to have the range switch in neutral and just assumed you had to push in the clutch. Somewhere in the manual it said not to start it unless you are sitting on it. I remember that much. Thank you for the lesson. I won't leave the keys in it.

Hello Folks,

I was was looking for my engine serial number and its not on the left side where the manual says. I think I found it on the right side. The numbers are stamped in and start with 152. Anyone else find them on the right side?

Mine is on the left. I have a Continental so I don't know where the Perkins numbers are found.

Well, we had a little girl 8 pounds 10 ounces and 22 inches long. I will make a separate thread for her with pictures. Since the cold weather was coming I changed the oil and flushed the coolant system. Both were pretty bad. I also cleared a spot out in the barn.

When I replaced the filter element I noticed most of the washers and seals were missing. So I think that means the oil was and is not being filtered. I will have to order all them parts or convert to spin on. Thats all I got done yesterday.

Howdy Folks,

I need some help or advice. I had an exhaust manifold stud broke off in the head. While attempting to fix it I must of drilled through a water jacket. This is a perkins gas engine and the stud in question is the upper one towards the front. Now wait it gets better, yes easy out broke off in the hole I drilled. So if I'm able to get the easyout out and I get the old stud out and hole retapped. Will putting in a new stud stop the leak? If not can it be repaired? Ok let me have it.

It's not the end of the world. Use Permatex thread sealant on the stud to prevent leaks. A lot of tractor engines have threaded holes in the block for the head bolts that penetrate into the coolant galleries. Thread sealant is necessary on these bolts to stop leakage.

Howdy Flusher,

I have never seen a perkins head apart. Do all the exhaust manifold studs thread into a water jacket? I have to tell you I was only in 1/2 inch if that and only went a little at a time. Thank you.

Howdy Again Everyone,

Does anyone know what the thread count and type for the exhaust manifold studs going into the head. The part sticking out appears to be a 5/16 stud with NF at 24 threads per inch. Now since I have not successfully removed one yet I don't know what is on the other end. This is on a 3 cyclinder perkins gas engine AG3-152. Thank you.
