Condolences, we went through this in March, mom was a few days short of 96, similar story, dad headed for the tall grass years ago with mom to raise us on her. She paid for everything years ago, cremation and no funeral. We had a rememberance party a couple of weeks later. She was in good health until a couple of weeks prior to her passing.

Please also accept my condolences. She and you were truly lucky that she was in pretty good health up until the end.

My own folks (Dad 84, Mom 82) have been either in Assisted Living or a Nursing Home for the last few years. Dad hasn't been out of bed in 15 months and Mom's dementia has her in a wheelchair all day. It's truly tough watching them go through this.

Your mom sounds pretty amazing!! I've heard the stories of my Grandparents and the depression. In their small WV town, the factories would hire women because they would work for less than the men. My grandmother worked at the same factory my grandfather ended up retiring from. She would back pies when she got home and he would go door to door the next day to sell them. They had a small (20 acres) farm and raised most of what they needed. There was a small coal mine shaft in the hill next door and my grandfather got his own coal until it started to cave in one day when he was in there.

What an amazing Mom that you have been blessed with. My Mom is 91 and I have been blessed with a great Mom as well. Their generation was by far tougher that ours for sure. I am very sorry for your loss.
