Well Pressure low ... Any idea's?

Must be nice. On a good day, in the spring(wet season here), I have a 1.5 GPM recovery rate.

Makes for interesting times from July to October.

Yes 1.5 GPM would make for interesting times ... I'm going to let the last few feet soak to soften things up and then go after the rest next week.

I can't believe its been this long ... the old girl has been doing well, Today I pulled the pump to blow the sand out ... I hit sand at 73 feet and when I was done I was at 84'

it has been doing a good job .. just decided to clean it out ... found out it was dug in 1983 at 95' pumping 8 gpm per minute ... I only have about 11' to go and it should be clear and as good as the day it was bored.

How are you getting the sand out from down the well?

I bought 100' of black water line ... at the end about 12" I put in a tee, reduced it down to fit an air hose, pull the well pump and use the hose with the air pressure and the sand comes out the black hose.

You bet ... I managed to blow out about another 3' this week. Does anyone know after the well is dug ... do they put something in the bottom? I have hit a hard spot that I can not get thru. At about 87'

In most places they put a staninless steel screen at the botton.

Okay today I bled out all the water, started with 28 psi in the tank, turned the pump on and no change. So I thought the tank/bladder is bad, so I decided to remove the tank. When I took the line apart it was loaded with sand. I cleaned it put it back together, started again with 28 psi and lots of pressure and lots of dirty water ... I quess this well is bad ???

It sounds like your well has sand intrusion. There are many ways of fixing the problem, but the easiest is set a new well screen. Contact me if you are interested. I'm a retired master well driller and can probably walk you through the process. Denny

Stainless is the best, but plastic works and is easy to make and use if you are on a tight budget. Denny

Gizmo ... Pull your well pump so you have nothing there except the well casing.

Then use the black pipe with the tee and air hose ... start the air compressor and start pushing the pipe, tee, and airhose down the well casing... when you hit sand the air with pick up the sand and water mix and bring it to the top out the other end of the black hose.

When your down there in the sand kinda lift up and then down and you will feel the end of it go into the sand. Keep that up and down motion ... and it will pull the sand up the black hose.

It works like siphoning gas out of a tank or how a siphon sand blast cabinet works. when you jab the hose at the end of the 'T' into the sand and turn on the air that air has to go somewhere. It can't get out the hose in the end because you have that jammed into the sandy bottom so it takes the path of least resistance and goes up the pipe on the other end of the 'T' which causes a vacuum in the pipe below and this vacuum pulls the sand off the bottom and up the pipe to the your haul bucket.

sounds like you have a leak in your stand pipe going down the well. If not it is going to be between the house and the well.Try turning pump off then go to the well head and listen to see if you hear water running? Give me more info on your water system. Denny

Sand blasting uses Bernoulli effect to suck sand.
The principle BR is using is based on difference in specific gravity of water versus water-air-sand mixture. Since the air-water-sand mixture is lighter than water it is pushed up by water entering from the bottom of the pipe. Because of the velocity of water entering from the bottom is high enough it also sucks in some sand. There is an optimum volume of air to provide maximum flow. Too much or too little will lower the flow.

Lenny, did you get my reply? I think I had you confused with someone else. Sorry. To clean your well, get a 1in. poly pipe about 50 ft. longer than the well is deep. Put a 1 in Tee about 10 ft. above what the well is deep. Hook one end of the Tee to the pipe going down the well. Hook the other end of the Tee to the 1in poly pipe for a discharge. Hook an air compressor to the middle of the Tee. (The bigger the better). But do not exceed 100 cfm on air compressor.
Another way, is to hook a hose to the top of the poly pipe going down the well, then back flush it to wash the sediment out. Note: this method is not very reliable on deep settings and needs a lot of water flow.
